A 9-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle in front of her Milford Mill home Friday, the second girl involved in a pedestrian accident in the Baltimore region this week. The first crash, in Middle River on Wednesday, was fatal. Police said Kalina Brockington, 9, was crossing Milford Mill Road near Wildor Avenue just before 8 a.m., when she ran into the path of a 2011 Nissan Versa traveling northbound on Milford Mill Road. Brockington, of the 3700 block of Milford Mill Road, was taken to Johns Hopkins Children's Center, where she remains in critical condition, police said.

A 34-year-old Baltimore man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday for his role in a heroin and gun distribution ring that netted police more than a dozen weapons, $8,000 in cash and two ounces of heroin when they busted it earlier this year, according to police and the Maryland U.S. attorney's office. Keith James, 34, of the 5000 block of Harford Road, will also have to serve three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty Monday to possession of heroin with the intent to distribute it and possession of a firearm that he was prohibited from having because of a previous conviction, prosecutors said.

Russell Michael Corbett and his wife Betty Lou moved from Milford Mill to a small farm in Carroll County just a few months ago because they wanted their three young children to grow up with plenty of land around them.Neighbors said the Corbetts were still talking about how much they loved living in Carroll, in an old house they completely remodeled, on six acres in a section of Silver Run where residential development is well under way, but pastures and woods still flourish.The Corbetts' country idyll was smashed Sunday in a car on rainy road as they were driving to a birthday party in Arbutus.

As of 9 a.m. Friday, traffic was slow on Milford Mill Road near Liberty Road, due to an accident. Traffic was slow on Route 45 near Highview Street in Baltimore County, due to a utility problem. Accidents were slowing traffic on North Broadway near Orleans Street in Baltimore City and Violet Avenue near Annapolis Road in Baltimore City. Monument Street is closed between Wolfe Street and Patterson Park Avenue in East Baltimore, due to sinkhole repairs. Maryland Transit Administration bus 35 has been diverted.
