That's how Mike Brennan, a lacrosse star at Mount St. Joe and a walk-on tight end at Notre Dame, made it to Super Bowl XXVI with the Buffalo Bills here this week.In two short years and a whirlwind tour of the NFL, Brennan, 24, has gone against all odds.

Charlie Jones sat on a couch in the front row with his teammates during a selection show party on Sunday evening at American University. A resident of Manchester in Carroll County, freshman swingman Jones was wearing a light gray sweatsuit and to his left were star point guard Darius Gardner and coach Mike Brennan. At about 6:20 p.m., the CBS selection show announced that American, the Patriot League champions, were the No. 15 seed in the West Regional for March Madness and would face No. 2 seed Wisconsin on Thursday in Milwaukee for the Eagles' first tournament appearance in five years.

Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake's chief executive plans to step down mid-month after almost nine years at the helm of the nonprofit. Mike Mitchell said Tuesday that the Baltimore-based provider of affordable housing was in a strong position and that he wanted to try something new. He said he wasn't sure yet whether that would be at another nonprofit, at a business or in politics. Mitchell sits on the Baltimore City Democratic Central Committee. Mike Brennan, chairman of the Habitat chapter, said Mitchell "has really put a lot into the organization" and oversaw big changes.

Ten men who distinguished themselves in sports at Mount St. Joseph were enshrined in the school's athletic Hall of Fame last night. It was the eighth annual induction ceremony.Named were Charles Chaney, Jim Creamer, Jim Dew, now head coach of football and baseball at Valley City (N.D.) State University, Timmy Druzgala, the late John Fick, Frank Kozel, Kevin Kreis, Jose Prado, Jack Roberts and Paul Triplett.Mike Brennan, class of 1985, who played three years of varsity football at Notre Dame and was drafted in the fourth round by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1990, was the guest speaker.
