COLLEGE PARK -- Owings Mills junior Avi Friedman, 32-0 at 103 pounds this season, was feeling some pressure earlier in the week about carrying his unbeaten record into yesterday's Class 2A-1A state tournament at College Park. However, once Friedman got on the mat, the pressure faded as he went into the "zone" that has carried him all season. Friedman breezed through the preliminaries and quarterfinals and will take on Brandon Gain of Harford Tech in today's semifinals. "My goal wasn't to go undfeated undefeated this year," Friedman said.

Unable to finish off any chances to take a lead in the first half, the River Hill girls soccer team had to rally yesterday at Centennial, getting a goal from sophomore defender Katherine Schaffer to salvage a 1-1 tie after 100 minutes of Howard County play. Schaffer was stationed at the far post to finish off a long throw by senior defender Amy Song with 9:35 remaining in regulation. The host Eagles took a 1-0 lead when senior forward Alyssa Vorce scored in the 55th minute. The visiting Hawks had the ball much of the game to create scoring chances, but the Eagles' defense, led by senior sweeper Leanne Catalano, wasn't budging.
