Cinderella is alive and well and living on Staten Island. Ingrid Michaelson, a 28-year-old singer-songwriter whose self-produced album Girls and Boys recently reached No. 2 on the iTunes pop chart, is enjoying an enchanted transformation as a recording artist. Michaelson's climb out of obscurity started, as is so often the case these days, on the Internet. Now she is known to many Grey's Anatomy fans for her quirky, heartfelt songs that were featured over the past year on the ABC television series.

In a hotly contested primary race ultimately decided by absentee ballots, Ernest C. Michaelson squeaked past Michael J. Serbian by 20 votes to become the GOP's nominee for the District 2 County Council seat.With the sheriffs race, several legislative races and the District 2 Republican nomination hanging in the balance, the Anne Arundel County Board of Supervisors of Elections counted 1,455 absentee ballots Thursday afternoon.The new counts did not alter the outcome of any of the races following Tuesday's primary, said Nancy Crawford, county elections administrator, Crawford said the primary returns must be recounted and verified before her office declares the results final next week.

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. - Disbarred lawyer Jerome E. Michaelson says he wants to pay back thousands of dollars he stole from personal-injury settlements. It's important to his rehabilitation, to remove the stain of thievery that lingers even in this Connecticut town 300 miles from the scene of his Baltimore crimes.Bureaucracy, he says, stands in his way. Prosecutors contend that's nothing but an excuse.According to a 1995 court order, Michaelson owes a total of $297,000 to 10 victims whose medical bills he never paid.

A city judge ordered a disbarred lawyer yesterday to pay more than $260,000 to clients he swindled but has avoided reimbursing for years -- rejecting the explanation that he thought he should retain attorney's fees for representing them.The case of Jerome E. Michaelson, a former Baltimore attorney convicted of 10 counts of felony theft in 1995, was highlighted in a series of articles in The Sun in February that examined the way Maryland courts punish lawyers who steal. Michaelson, who now earns $576 a week as manager of a tennis club in Bloomfield, Conn.
