Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Stephens Church (Bradshaw)

Part folk opera and part Hollywood musical, "Sarafina!" takes us to the darkest part of the world with a song in our heart. It is, to put it mildly, a paradox inside a conundrum wrapped in a tragedy.It's a kind of musical homage to the generation of black South African township children who waged war against the South African power structure with very little more than their faith in the future and the conviction that someday freedom would come. Somehow, tiny fists against tanks and goons with streetsweepers doesn't seem like much of a match, but the true glory which "Sarafina!"

Philip Zacharko and Mark S. Zacharko; cherished brother of Philip Zacharko, Sr., Helen Laufert and the late Patricia Adams; loving grandfather of eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews and friends. Services and interment will be private.

Services for Michael S. Peters Jr., a sales clerk who was active in church work, were conducted Dec. 3 at the Kingdom hall of the Sequoia Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.The 20-year-old Kathland Avenue resident was killed Nov. 28 in a shooting at a Catonsville barbershop in which the barber also was killed in what police described as a robbery attempt.He is survived by his parents, Thelma and Michael S. Peters Sr., and two sisters, Sabrina Martin and Sophia Cox; all are from Baltimore.
