Margaret N. Metz, a retired Harford County educator and world traveler, died Nov. 2 of complications from a stroke at her Bel Air home. She was 80. The daughter of an educator and a homemaker, Margaret Nancy Jackson was born in Abingdon, Pa., and raised in Jenkintown, Pa. After graduating from Jenkintown High School in 1950, she earned a bachelor's degree in 1954 from what was then Beaver College, now Arcadia University. She married Howard Metz in 1956. Mrs. Metz taught business courses for three years at Upper Dublin High School in Fort Washington, Pa., before moving to Bel Air in 1963.

ANN ELIZABETH METZ of Ellicott City, age 24, died Feb. 7 of leukemia. She graduated with a BS in Nursing from the Univ. of MD in 2004 and turned her experiences with cancer into a comic book Adventures of Chemotherapy, which won local attention. She is survived by her parents David and Deborah Metz, her loving brother Daniel, grandfather Kenneth Metz, grandmother Dorothy Dootson, and devoted boyfriend Dr. Matthew Hall. Because she donated her body to science, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers and cards, please contribute to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, www.leukemia.

Edward Jackson Metz, a retired insurance salesman and World War II combat veteran, died of cancer Wednesday at Charlestown Retirement Community. The former Reisterstown resident was 84. Born in Baltimore and raised in Hamilton, he was a 1938 graduate of City College. A Coca-Cola salesman before enlisting in the Marine Corps the week after the Pearl Harbor attack, he fought at Guadalcanal. After the war, he worked for Stanback Co., a patent medicine business, and in 1955 began working for Allstate Insurance Co. in Brooklyn Park.

A. Leroy Metz, an insurance agent, died Sunday of undetermined causes at his Perry Hall home. He was 72.Known as Roy, he worked for 50 years in the insurance business. He had been associated with Western Reserve Life Insurance Co. since 1963 and previously had worked for Mutual of Omaha and Penn Life Insurance Co.He was born and raised in Wind Gap, Pa., and moved to Baltimore in the early 1950s.As a young man, he organized and directed a dance band, which played at Pocono resorts. He also collected big-band recordings and was especially fond of the music of Frank Sinatra.

Bob Metz has been bowling tenpins since 1972 and never had an all-spare game until mid-November.Metz threw his all-spare game on Nov. 11 in the Wednesday Night Late Men's League at Westminster Thunderhead.And on the same night, at the same center, in the same league, Bill Shaffer filled every frame for an all-spare game.Metz, who lives in Manchester, is an 183-average bowler with a high game of 265 and a high set of 657. He uses a 14-pound AMF Strikeline bowling ball that he has had since 1972.

A city Circuit Court jury concluded yesterday that a Baltimore man did not contract typhoid fever from eating a salad at D'Alesio's restaurant in Little Italy during a birthday party for former state Comptroller William Donald Schaefer, according to attorneys involved with the case. The decision -- after two days of deliberations -- ends an $800,000 lawsuit filed by Dennis Metz against the restaurant and its owners, Paul L. Oliver and Gene M. Raynor, a retired state and city elections official.

Black & Decker Corp. said yesterday that it has named Christopher T. Metz to the newly created position of president of North American hardware and home improvement. Metz, who has been with the Towson toolmaker since 1992, will retain his title as president of Kwikset Corp. The new position marks the consolidation of Black & Decker's Kwikset locks division in Irvine, Calif., and its Price Pfister plumbing products division in Pacoima, Calif. The combined business will be located in suburban Los Angeles.
