A pizza deliveryman was robbed at gunpoint Monday of an undisclosed amount of money, county police said.Brian Douglass Barber, 18, told police he delivered a Papa John's pizza to a home in the 3400 block of Andrew Court in Maryland City. He returned to his car, got in and saw two men standing in front of it, he reported.One of the men pointed a handgun at Mr. Barber and demanded money, police said. He complied and the men ran away, officers said.Gambrills teen receives Messiah College scholarshipGambrills resident Kristina M. Brye was selected to receive the Messiah College President's Scholarship for the 1995-1996 academic year.

Stevenson University unveiled "Victory" on Wednesday afternoon, a 12-foot-tall bronze statue of the school's mascot that will greet visitors to Mustang Stadium. The sculpture was a yearlong project by nationally renowned wildlife sculptor and Westminster native Bart Walter. According to the school, it "will represent the strength and unity of the entire Stevenson community and the spirit that drives everything from its growth to its championship athletic teams. " A smaller replica of the sculpture will also be placed within the stadium "as a spur to Stevenson's student-athletes as they take the field.

Eric and Laurie White of Bel Air, announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily, to Daniel Grden, son of David and Sandy Grden of Abingdon. The bride-to-be is a graduate of C Milton Wright High School and Messiah College. She is employed at New Covenant Christian School in Abingdon as a kindergarten through 12th grade art teacher. The prospective groom is a graduate of Bel Air High School and is employed at Business Machines in Forest Hill as a copier technician. A June 16 wedding is planned.

Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual spring fried chicken, roast beef and ham dinner starting at noon Sunday at the fire hall. Food, which will be served family-style, includes salads, vegetables, rolls and beverage, until supplies are sold out. A baked goods table will be available. The cost is $9 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12. Carryouts cost $10.50. The fire hall is at 1320 W. Old Liberty Road. Information: 410-795-1333. La Leche League meets at Methodist church La Leche League of Mount Airy meets twice a month to offer breastfeeding support and information to new mothers.

Shirley and Gerald Surrett of Bel Air, announce the engagement of their daughter, Hillary Fifer, to Daniel Houtz, son of Catherine Houtz of Hampstead, and Victor Houtz of Stroudsburg, Pa. Fifer is also the daughter of the late Dr. Robert Fifer. Fifer is a 2002 graduate of Bel Air High School. She earned a bachelor of arts in communication from Messiah College in 2006 and is a marketing specialist for Harford County Public Library. Houtz is a 2003 graduate of C. Milton Wright High School.

Columbia student Benjamin Jarvis, a senior majoring in engineering, earned dean's list status at Messiah College, in Grantham, Pa., for the fall term. Washington College, in Chestertown, announced that Rachel Thompson achieved dean's list recognition for the spring semester. Pamela Jones, of Columbia, is her mother. Samantha Hansen was named a Dimmitt Scholar at Morningside College, in Sioux City, Iowa, in recognition of achievements during the 2011-12 academic year. The daughter of Fred Hansen, of Columbia, and Laurie Hansen, of Minneapolis, Minn., she majors in English and photography.

He co-presented "Molecular Biodiversity of Plants and Animals: Conservation, Sexual Selection and Speciation. " Kyle Greenhaus , of Columbia, has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2011 semester at the University of Vermont, in Burlington, Vt. He is a junior majoring in business administration. Jacklyn Grad , of Columbia, participated in Salisbury University's 10th annual Student Research Conference.

A Marine captain from Owings Mills was killed Tuesday while serving as a communications officer in Afghanistan, the Pentagon said yesterday. Capt. Jesse Melton III, 29, was working with a team helping to train members of the Afghan National Army when a roadside bomb exploded, killing him, another Marine officer, a member of the U.S. Navy and an Afghani interpreter, said his mother, Janice Chance. "He was a man of honor and a servant leader," she said last night as their family's Owings Mills home filled with friends and relatives.
