Retired from Westinghouse, PGK of Bishop Sebastian Council of the Knights of Columbus, passed area Gov. of Toast Masters. Member of St. Ursula's Catholic Church. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, January 19, 2008, Noon, at St. Ursula's Catholic Church, 8801 Harford Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Good Samaritan Hospital, CAPD Unit or Gilchrist Hospice Center of Towson.

Beloved wife of the late Paul Kalynowsky; mother of Irene Kirilloff, of Frederick, MD and Nina K. Platt, of Stevenson, MD. She was a member of St. Michael's Ukranian Orthodox Church. A Mass of Christian burial for John M. Frederick, a retired partner in a family plumbing and roofing company, will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. William of York Roman Catholic Church, Edmondson Avenue and Cooks Lane.Mr. Frederick, who was 90 and lived on Nottingham Road, died Monday at St. Agnes Hospital of complications following surgery.He retired about 25 years ago as a partner in M. J. Frederick & Bro., which had been started by his grandfather.Mr. Frederick was a former president and an honorary life member of the Maryland Master Plumbers Association.

Novak, Sr. Devoted mother of Delores Nagrabski and her husband Steve, Robert Novak and his wife Sally and the late Adam P. Jr. Dear sister of Raymond and Amiel Wajbel. Loving grandmother of Steve and Richard Nagrabski and Robert, Jr. and James Novak. Also survived by four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Thomas R. Volker, a retired typesetter and former longtime Fullerton resident, died of congestive heart failure Dec. 3 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. He was 79. Mr. Volker was born in Baltimore and raised on Moreland Avenue. He attended Polytechnic Institute and went to work in the early 1940s as a typesetter for Baltimore Type and Composition Co. on Frederick Street. After the company closed in the late 1970s, Mr. Volker and his brother established Volker Bros., a typesetting business, in a building behind his Fullerton home.

Emily Laws Grant, a homemaker and longtime member of Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church, died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Sunday at College Manor nursing home in Lutherville. She was 90. She was born Emily L. Cross in Baltimore, raised in Roland Park and graduated from Eastern High School. A member of Old St. Paul's since 1951, Mrs. Grant had been a parish hostess and served as chaperone of the church boys choir when it took trips abroad. "She became a choir mother in 1965 and is fondly remembered for tying the big, black, fluffy ties worn by the choirboys," said Maizi Heil, parish secretary.

During the fall semester of 1950, St. John's College starred as the set of a glam Hollywood movie. But the studious college was totally out of character in Saturday's Hero, starring John Derek. As The Sun reported from Annapolis, "Hollywood came here today and temporarily transformed quiet academic St. John's College into a rah-rah school for playboys." "St. John's withdrew from inner-collegiate athletics a dozen years ago to encourage its students to concentrate on Great Books ... But today, St. John's had a bigtime college football star.

On May 12, 2006, SONIA MARIECALDWELL, age 62, of Elkhart, IN, died at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. She was born June 7, 1943, in Baltimore, MD to the late Carl and Julia Wasko. She began her teaching career at Roosevelt Elementary, and later taught at Northside Jr. High School before retiring in 2004 from Mary Daly. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland, received her Masters Degree from Ball State, was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and was a pet therapy participant.
