Capt. Lewis B. Melson, a career naval officer who had worked extensively during the 1960s with the Navy's pioneering Sealab program that allowed divers to work at the bottom of the ocean, died Sunday of respiratory failure at his daughter's West Towson home. He was 100. The son of Roy Melson, a farmer, banker and county commissioner, and Etta Melson, a homemaker, Lewis Byron Melson was born in Salem, Ore., and raised on his family's farm. After graduating in 1932 from Salem High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1936 from Oregon State University.

(Godsland) Michel, a son Daniel A. Michel Judy and four grandchildren. On Sunday, February 9, 2003, EDITH C. CLUM, 87, of Pocomoke City and formerly of Towson, died at Peninsula Regional Medial Center in Salisbury. Born in Hyattsville, MD, she was a daughter of the late William and Ruby Beeman Coleman. Her husband, Russell W. Clum, preceded her in death. Mrs. Clum was a former member and past president of the Providence Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary; Docent at Hampton Mansion and was a volunteer at the Fire Museum of Maryland. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert W. Clum and Vi of Pocomoke City and Richard Cumberland and Jan of Hyco Lake, NC; a favorite niece, Lois Fellows of Richmond, VA; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; two brother and a sister preceded her in death.

ROSE M. THOMAS, age 86, of Ocean View, DE, formerly of Baltimore, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2005 at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE. She was a computer programer for Lockheed-Martin Aircraft Company in Baltimore, retiring after over 30 years of service. She was a very active member and past president of the ladies auxiliary division of Mason-Dixon VFW Post #7234 of Quillens Point in Ocean View, DE, and was the founder of their Friday night dinners. She was also a member of the Lord Baltimore Ladies Club, Ocean View Chapter.

SARA HARDING SARTORIUS, 89, formerly of Pocomoke City, died of congestive heart failure at the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, Saturday, December 6, 2003. Born September 17, 1914 in Richmond, VA, she was a daughter of the late G. Stanley and Elizabeth West Harding; her husband, Dr. Norman E. Sartorius, Jr., preceded in her death in 1983. Mrs. Sartorius and her husband made Pocomoke City their home for 48 years. She is survived by one son, Norman E. Sartorius, III of Parkersburg, WV; a daughter, Susan E. Sartorius-Mergenthaler of Ellicott City, MD; a brother, George S. Harding Jr. of Richmond, VA; and two grandchildren.
