Meekins; devoted mother of Judith Meekins Sexton and her husband Richard; loving grandmother of Andrew C. and Carrie S. Sexton and dear great grandmother of Elizabeth M. and Sarah N. Sexton. Friends may call at the family owned Evans Chapel of Memories - Parkville on Tuesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday 10 A.M. at the Faith Presbyterian Church. Interment Moreland Memorial Park.

Gene Ward Meekins Sr., a retired salesman and collector of military memorabilia, died of cancer Thursday at his Catonsville home. He was 81. Mr. Meekins was born in Baltimore and raised on Elm Ridge Road in Arbutus. After graduating from City College in 1944, he enlisted in the Navy. He served as a boatswain aboard the destroyer USS Duffy and participated in the Leyte Gulf, Mille and Maloelap Atoll campaigns. After the war, Mr. Meekins became a furniture salesman for Shaivitz. In 1970, he joined the old Hutzler's department store, where he worked in the rug department at Westview Shopping Center and later in Towson.

Joan Meekins, marketing director for Carroll County Department of Economic Development, said yesterday that she will leave next month to take a health care job.Ms. Meekins, who also had been the county's tourism director, will work in marketing for Homecall Inc., a home health agency with offices statewide. Her last day with the county will be Aug. 18.She will work with Homecall offices in Carroll, Howard, Harford and Baltimore counties and Baltimore City and will be based in Westminster, she said.

Marjorie Fay Meekins, who rose from a clerical job to manager of the Annapolis office during a 47-year career with Baltimore Gas and Electric Co., died at her home Thursday of complications from a fall. She was 90. The lifelong Annapolis resident was a 1931 graduate of Annapolis High School. She began her career with BGE that same year as a clerk in its Main Street office. She was later secretary to the manager there, and retired in 1978 as the manager. Miss Meekins enjoyed preparing Maryland dishes and entertaining.

Many Baltimoreans knew William J. Meekins as the reserved vice president of Baltimore Life Insurance Co., but to more than a dozen Thai exchange students who shared his home over the years, he was their American Dad.The prominent businessman and husband died Thursday of Alzheimer's disease at the Charlestown Care Center in Owings Mills. He was 78.Since 1968, Mr. Meekins and his wife, Martha, 72, had taken in students from Thailand who came to the United States to study English. The students have been more like family, Martha Meekins said.
