Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco played through pain during the final two games after spraining the medial collateral ligament in his left knee against the Detroit Lions in Week 15. Flacco said, however, that he won't need to undergo offseason surgery to repair the damage to his knee. "No, I'm not going to have to get anything done," Flacco said following the Ravens' season-ending 34-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. "It was just my MCL, and it will heal on its own. " Flacco appeared to be in pain after being hit in the end zone, grabbing his knee and wincing afterward.

Bruins center Marc Savard is expected to miss three to four weeks because of a partial ligament tear in his right knee that won't need surgery. Savard suffered an injury to his medial collateral ligament. Savard, who plays regularly on the power play, was injured along the boards in Thursday's 5-2 loss at home against the Blackhawks. Savard was lost 28 seconds into the game. •The suspended Tampa Bay Lightning-New Jersey Devils game will be completed on Sunday.

Friedman won a 13-2 major decision in the 126-pound final, and he was also named the tournament's outstanding wrestler. Known for his durability and determination - he hasn't missed a match this season despite a partially torn medial collateral ligament in his knee - Friedman is 41-8. He is also an A student and will wrestle at the University of Pennsylvania.

Kelley Gibson, a redshirt sophomore guard for the Maryland )) women's team, has suffered a probable tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and a strain of the medial collateral ligament in her left knee and likely will not play again this season, the school announced yesterday.Gibson, averaging 9.4 points and 4.2 rebounds this season, suffered the injury on a baseline drive with six seconds to go in Thursday's 79-59 win over Florida State.A school spokesman said it won't be clear for four weeks whether Gibson, who was evaluated yesterday by Maryland medical personnel, will have to undergo reconstructive surgery on the knee.

Scott Manning was forced to leave practice early yesterday because of recurring pain in his right knee and will not play this weekend against the Tacoma Stars and Wichita Wings at the Baltimore Arena.Manning, who has a sprained medial collateral ligament in the knee, had hoped to make it through practice yesterday with the help of a knee brace and possibly play tomorrow against the Stars or Sunday against Wichita.It would have been a quick one-week recovery for Manning from the injury that occurred last Friday night in Wichita in a 7-6 overtime loss to the Wings.

The past two times Chico Borja took out Baltimore Blast players with alleged late hits, he faced only the wrath of the Baltimore fans, coach Kenny Cooper and some of the Baltimore players.But now the Blast cries of more foul play by the Wichita Wings midfielder have reached Major Soccer League commissioner Earl Foreman's office in the form of a videotape replay.Baltimore owner Ed Hale is asking that Foreman review the tape and act against Borja for running into Blast goalkeeper Scott Manning in the fourth quarter of Friday night's 7-6 overtime loss to the Wings in Wichita, Kan."

Ask Ralph Henry about the day his promising football career hit a major snag, and you'll hardly recognize the man who answers. Navy's soft-spoken junior defensive end, usually so quick with a smile, will furrow his brow and shake his head, losing himself in deep thought before answering in a tone painted with frustration. "That day," he says, "really burst my bubble." A year ago, things could have hardly been better. A 1998 graduate of Eastern Tech High School, Henry looked full of promise coming into the 2001 season, his sophomore year.
