Edward F. "Fitz" Marburger Jr., a pilot and former Pasadena resident, died in his sleep Aug. 17 at his home in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He was 74. Mr. Marburger was born in Salem, Ohio, and raised in Pottsville, Pa. He earned a bachelor's degree from Susquehanna University and during the 1950s served with the Navy's Seabees. He taught special-education students for several years in Middleburg, Pa., and was a flight instructor in New Cumberland, Pa., before coming to Pasadena in the 1970s and working as a home inspector.

Clarence E. German, who retired in 1968 as a Baltimore police lieutenant colonel and as head of the force's Criminal Investigation Division, died Tuesday at a hospital in Camp Hill, Pa., after a heart attack.He was 85 and had lived in Mechanicsburg, Pa., since 1979.Services for Colonel German were being held today at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg.He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Fry; a sister, Gladys Shawker of Gaithersburg; a nephew, Alvin German Jr. of Columbia; and a niece, Norma Jordan of Arbutus.

On Friday, January 16, 2004, JOAN L. ROSE, 79, of Mechanicsburg, PA, formerly of Catonsville, MD; the widow of John G. Rose. Also preceded in death by her parents Forrest Curtis and Beulah (Lacey) Curtis. Survived by a daughter, Janet E. (Rose) Larson, of Sacramento, CA. Two sons, J. Curtis Rose, of Harrisburg, PA and James G. Rose, of Catonsville, MD. A sister, Joan Jones, of The Dallas, OR. Also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was employed by the State of Maryland, as an Occupational Therapist.

Smith, III and wife Claire, of Centerville, MD and Nancy Vandevender and husband Vernon, of Mechanicsburg, PA. Also surviving are step-sons, David Herman and wife Nathalie, of Frederick, MD and Paul Herman and wife Mojca, of California, step-sister, Pat Kirby of Mechanicsburg, PA., and 6 grandsons. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 14 at 11 A.M., at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballanger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

King, a Taneytown plumbing and heating contractor, recently was elected to a second three-year term on the board of Tressler Lutheran Services of Mechanicsburg, Pa.He has served on the board of the Tressler Lutheran Fund, an endowment whose interest income supports Tressler Lutheran Services' program for children and families.The Lutheran agency annually serves 20,000 people in three states.FireTaneytown: Firefighters from Harney and Union Bridge assisted Taneytown at 12: 13 p.m. Monday, responding for smoke in a house in the first block of Fairground Ave. Units were out 25 minutes.
