A 22-year-old woman looking for crack cocaine was raped by three menin a vacant Meade Village apartment early Saturday, county police say.Police say the woman went to Meade Village about 4 a.m. and spoke to a man at the intersection of Circle and Meade Village roads. The man directed her to an apartment building on Circle Road.The woman walked to the building and met another man, standing atthe entrance, who took her to a vacant apartment.Police say thefirst man also went to the apartment.

Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman announced Wednesday that the Video Lottery Facility Local Development Council selected 12 recipients to receive a total of $249,344 in community grants, derived from the Maryland Live Casino gaming tax. The top-funded projects include: • The Anne Arundel County Partnership for Children, Youth and Families will receive $40,000 for its Promise Neighborhood Project in Meade Village. • Hospice of the Chesapeake Foundation Inc. will receive $25,725 for grief support and education.

An unidentified man believed to be in his mid-20s was found shot and dying yesterday afternoon on a Meade Village sidewalk, county police reported. The victim was found about 12: 30 p.m. by officers investigating a call reporting a shooting, said Lt. Jeffrey A. Kelly, an Anne Arundel County police spokesman. He was pronounced dead a short time later at North Arundel Hospital. A motive for the killing had not been determined, Kelly said. Police asked that anyone with information about the shooting call homicide detectives at 410-222-3456.

Man charged in daughter's beating A 21-year-old College Creek Terrace man was charged with repeatedly beating his daughter with a belt, Annapolis police said. The man, who was not identified to protect his daughter's identity, had had custody of the girl over the summer and was questioned after returning the girl to her mother's care Tuesday. The Baltimore woman said the girl had extensive bruising on her back and waist. Police said her father had whipped her with the belt to punish her for misbehavior, such as bedwetting.

A 22-year-old Annapolis man was sentenced yesterday to 12 years in prison for shooting a man in the mouth during an argument in Meade Village last year.Eugene A. Washington of the 200 block of Parker Ave. pleaded guilty to assault with intent to murder Gary Bruce, 20, of Glen Burnie.William Mulford, assistant state's attorney, said there had been an argument the evening of March 5 during a sports event at Meade High School. Afterward, Washington drove up to a crowd in the 1700 block of Meade Village Circle.

County police charged a 20-year-old Severn man yesterday with first-degree murder and a handgun violation in the shooting death of a Meade Village man.Charles David Hicks of the 1800 block of Eagle Court, several blocks south of Meade Village, was charged in the death of Carlos Omar Brown, 18, of the 1600 block of Meade Village Circle. Mr. Hicks was being held at the Western District station last night, awaiting an appearance before a court commissioner.Mr. Brown was shot several times as he walked with a friend near his home about 12:45 a.m. yesterday in the Meade Village public housing complex and died at the scene.

A dozen families were burned out of their Meade Village apartments Wednesday when a three-alarm fire swept through their building, county fire officials said yesterday.Lt. Robert Kornmann, a fire department spokesman, said one firefighter suffered from heat exhaustion in the blaze, which was was started by a child playing with matches.William Peters, the firefighter, was taken by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital, treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.According to Clifton Martin, a county housing authority spokesman, 12 families living at 1677 Meade Village Circle were displaced by the fire.

It's not easy pulling off a dignified opening ceremony with a dozen children scooting around and whining, "I want some c-a-a-a-k-e!"But state and county officials did the best they could. Just before the shooting, about 12: 30 p.m., Macklin, of an unknown address, was seen meeting with a 15- to 20-year-old dark-skinned black man who has a medium build and was wearing a black coat, police said. Two county police officers pulled over a driver Tuesday for running a stop sign in Meade Village, then wound up chasing him into an apartment where they arrested him.Keith Lamont Martin, 35, of the 300 block of Highland Drive in Glen Burnie was charged with assault, drug possession, trespassing, reckless endangerment, burglary, failure to stop for a stop sign, fleeing and eluding police, and driving on a suspended license.Officers Robert Vane and Thomas Kohlmann were in Severn about 12: 30 a.m. when they saw a 1994 Geo fail to stop at a sign at Meade Village Road and Circle Road.

County police arrested three Severn youths and a Severn man Tuesday on theft charges after they discovered a bicycle theft ring was operating in their neighborhood.A community security guard told police that he saw four teen-agers on Meade Village Circle just after 4: 30 a.m. with several bicycles. The guard became suspicious because one bicycle was small and obviously made for a toddler. He approached the teens, but they ran, so he called police.Responding officers stumbled upon 10 bicycles, some dismantled, behind the 1600 block of Meade Village Circle, police said.

A team of officers from five county police units swept through three Severn neighborhoods Wednesday and arrested three men and a woman.The goal was to increase the presence of police and crack down on illegal activity in Pioneer City, Stillmeadow and Meade Village.Patrol officers teamed with officers from four specialty units for the effort, which began about 7 p.m.The first arrest came when an officer stopped Melissa Goliday, 23, of the 1700 block of Richfield Drive, checked her license, found she was wanted in Annapolis on a battery charge and arrested her.About 8: 30 p.m., patrol officers tried to stop a reportedly stolen car in Meade Village, but the driver sped off and crashed into a car in the 1700 block of Meade Village Circle, police said.

Undercover county police arrested three men and a juvenile Friday after a series of drug buys in several West County neighborhoods.Derrick L. Love, 26, of the 6500 block of Quiet Hours in Columbia was charged with fourth-degree burglary. Nathaniel C. Harris, 19, of the 1700 block of Meade Village Circle in Severn was charged with distribution of counterfeit drugs; Johnny E. Mack, 38, of the 100 block of Pinecove Ave. in Odenton and the juvenile from Meade Village were charged with distribution of crack cocaine.

WHEN A POLICE OFFICER issues an order to stop, most of us obey. Those who don't usually find themselves in trouble. Failure to obey seems to be at the heart of the case that ended up with Fabian Gray, a 16-year-old Meade Village resident, being hospitalized with a variety of injuries.Eyewitness accounts differ, but every one seems to agree on a few facts. Last Friday afternoon, the teen-ager was riding a dirt bike on Meade Village Circle back and forth at speeds of up to 60 mph. Sgt. Brian Heger, with the Youth Activities Program in the western Anne Arundel County community, stepped onto the street to talk to the teen.
