Milton Wright senior Hardy McSpadden looks anything but imposing on the football field until he takes his first step.McSpadden scored on a run, a pass and a 90-yard punt return, and also had two interceptions, as the host Mustangs routed Aberdeen, 35-0, in a Harford County League game.The victory was important for Wright (7-1 overall, 5-1 in the league), which began the day ranked 10th in the Class 3A state playoff race, with only the top eight teams advancing to postseason play.

Elizabeth Lynn McSpadden, daughter of Jay and Betsy McSpadden, of Havre de Grace, and Adam Joseph Hasenfus, son of Eric and Cheryl Hasenfus, of Rome, Maine, were married June 24 at the Kent Manor Inn on Kent Island. The ceremony was performed by Harford County Circuit Court Judge Emory A Plitt Jr. Megan Jollett, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Stacie McSpadden, sister-in-law of the bride, Leah Smith and Shauna Myles, sisters of the groom, Abbie Moyer, Kerri DiMartino, Angela Berger, Heather McHugh, Katie Quinzi and Kim Bageant , friends of the bride.

A Baltimore Circuit Court jury has awarded a man $1 million in damages after finding that a city police officer assaulted him and violated his civil rights during an early-morning incident in Fells Point five years ago. Jurors deliberated for about six hours into Wednesday night before finding Officer Michael S. McSpadden liable for the assault on Robert O'Neil of Baltimore County, whose wrist was broken. Jurors also found that McSpadden, who joined the department in 1993, violated O'Neil's civil rights.

Baltimore officials agreed Wednesday to settle two lawsuits involving alleged police misconduct, costing the city a combined $88,500. The city's spending panel, the Board of Estimates, approved a settlement for $62,000 after a group of men say they were falsely arrested and subject to an unwarranted use of force by a police officer inside a city parking garage in June 2012. The board also approved the settlement of a case for $26,500 involving a husband and wife and their friend who alleged that they were wrongly arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 27, 2012 while a Baltimore club was closing.

While hospitalized with a fractured ankle and broken jaw, John Bonkowski reached for his smartphone to find details about the man who beat him outside a parking garage near the Inner Harbor. He typed "Officer Michael McSpadden" into Google. The results stunned Bonkowski. He found references showing that the longtime Baltimore officer had been accused in three separate civil lawsuits: of kicking and stomping a woman, of breaking a man's wrist and of beating a man unconscious with a police baton.

C. Milton Wright overcame a 7-0 second-period deficit with 24 unanswered points to vanquish Montgomery County power Damascus, 24-14, before a large crowd at the Hornets' home field. The win was Wright's sixth straight.The sixth-ranked Mustangs (10-1) face No. 2-ranked Eastern Tech (11-0) in a semifinal next weekend.Wright's Hardy McSpadden caught an 11-yard scoring pass from 6-foot-4, 200-pound quarterback Grant Burrough for the Mustangs' first points, then tied the game at 7-7 -- the halftime score -- with his first of three extra-point kicks.

Let it be noted that the transformation of C. Milton Wright's Erin Rodecker occurred in mid-April.That's when Rodecker settled in as the Mustangs' leading hurler and learned to relax and just concentrate on pitching.Rodecker hasn't swayed from that thinking, and she put forth another strong effort yesterday, allowing no runs and scattering five hits over seven innings as visiting C. Milton Wright defeated Catonsville, 9-0, in a Class 3A North region semifinal.The Mustangs (16-6) advanced to their second straight regional championship and will play Fallston, an 18-4 winner over Kenwood, tomorrow.
