The rebirth of a once-deteriorating block in Druid Heights was celebrated yesterday by community members as McCulloh Place, a development of 15 renovated apartments for low- to moderate-income people, was officially opened. City and state officials were on hand for the opening of the $2.6 million project in the 2200 block of McCulloh St. The apartments - ranging in size from two-bedroom, one-bath units to a five-bedroom, two-bath unit - offer amenities rare in lower-income housing: central air, gas ranges, secure parking and washers and dryers.

When junior goalkeeper William Lane's career came to a swift end after suffering a concussion -- the fifth of his athletic career -- in the second game of the 2012 season, Hood employed three different freshmen before settling on Joseph McCulloh. The Westminster native and Winters Mill graduate registered a 10.56 goals-against average and a .596 save percentage in 14 contests, including 10 starts.
