Beloved Godmother of Carol Whitney Ansell and David A. Walsh. Resided with Patricia and Vince Sanzone. Also survived by a loving extended family and many friends. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 11, 11 A.M. at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home & Monument Company, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD. Interment in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers: Robert Hopkins and Perry Hopkins, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Friends may call at the Gary P. March Funeral Home, 270 Fred Hilton Pass, on Wednesday from 10 A.M. to 7 P.M. Family will receive friends at Concord Baptist Church, 5204 Liberty Heights Avenue, Thursday from 10 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Funeral services to follow.

Mazie Mullinix Leslie, a nurse and member of numerous local clubs, died May 15 at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care of complications from kidney failure. She was 83 and lived in Towson. Mazie Mullinix grew up on her family's 350-acre farm near Damascus, where the family grew tobacco and ran timber and flour mills powered by the Patuxent River until they were wiped out by the Depression. There she learned self-reliance and acquired perspective that shaped her life - and she provided wonderful stories, said her daughter Sharon L. Bowyer of Baltimore.

The husband of a woman being held up at gunpoint near a Brooklyn Park bank Monday night scared the thief away empty-handed, county police said.Mazie Ann Nadwodny, 48, of Glen Burnie was using an automated teller machine about 8 p.m. at the Signet Bank near the 4100 block of Ritchie Highway when a man threatened her with a handgun and demanded money.Her husband's appearance surprised the would-be robber, police said, and scared him away. As the would-be robber ran off, he threw what turned out to be a pellet gun to the ground and headed east on Tungsten Street.

Mazie Odelle Rea, 71, assistant principalMazie Odelle Rea, a retired educator, died Sept. 13 of cancer at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care in Towson. The longtime Northwest Baltimore resident was 71.Mrs. Rea's career as a teacher, counselor and assistant principal began at Baltimore's Booker T. Washington High School in 1949 and ended in 1986, when she retired as assistant principal of Johnnycake Junior High School in Baltimore County.She taught English at Carver Vocational-Technical Senior High School and was a guidance counselor at Patapsco, Southwestern and Western high schools.
