TORONTO - Orioles first baseman Chris Davis will hit from the No. 7 spot tonight for the first time since Sept. 23, 2012, and Delmon Young will bat cleanup for the second time in three games. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said the revamped roster gives the club its best opportunity against Toronto left-handed Mark Buehrle. Young is a career .396 hitter (19-for-48) with four homers and eight RBIs against Buehrle. Nelson Cruz, who is still batting fifth, is mired in a 1-for-32 slump.

FoxSports has reported in a tweet that free-agent pitcher Mark Buehrle has agreed to terms with the Florida Marlins on a four-year, $58 million deal. If so, this becomes a disappointing day for the Washington Nationals, who were hoping to beef up their starting rotation with the former Chicago White Sox starter. The Marlins had put it on the street earlier in the day at the winter meetings that they had offers out to both Buehrle and C.J. Wilson, and would sign the first pitcher to accept.

The Orioles have only scored two runs in 21 innings against the Toronto Blue Jays, but Saturday night's 2-1 victory at Camden Yards had the heady feel of one of those extra-inning wins that made 2012 such a magical year. And the Orioles still have a chance to win the series if they can muster some offense against Blue Jays left-hander Mark Buehrle today. David Lough eventually delivered a game-winning single off Toronto reliever Todd Redmond after Steve Lombardozzi hit a long triple to center field with one out in the 12th inning.

The White Sox's 45-43 first half couldn't have been much more nondescript. They were 22-21 at home and 23-22 on the road. The next week will go a long way toward determining whether they are serious buyers at the nonwaiver trade deadline. Heading into tonight, Chicago is in second place in the American League Central, 3 1/2 games behind the Detroit Tigers and a half game ahead of the Minnesota Twins. The White Sox have the fourth-best ERA in the AL at 4.16. The staff is led by ace Mark Buehrle (9-3, 3.66 ERA)

Jeremy Guthrie, whose talk with reporters after his previous start included jokes about his struggles against the Boston Red Sox and his admiration for former BYU basketball star Jimmer Fredette, spoke in measured tones with his eyes fixed on the floor. Normally verbose and engaging, Guthrie's answers after the Orioles' 6-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Monday night before an announced 18,007 at U.S. Cellular Field were short and indirect. "I had chances to finish people. Didn't do it," he said.

It started with Jeremy Guthrie five days earlier in Game 1 of the Buck Showalter era, and it continued with him Sunday as the Orioles orchestrated another quality win against one of baseball's hottest teams. Under Showalter, the Orioles are getting more clutch hits, playing tighter defense and paying more attention to the little things that had cost them game after game the previous four months. But the primary reason they are winning and no longer look like a pushover is that their starting rotation is on a run the likes of which the Orioles haven't experienced in some time.
