A New Jersey man was robbed in the parking lot of a Jessup motel early Friday morning, Howard County police said.Steven Collins, 28, of Newfield, N.J., was robbed at knifepoint of $200 as he left the Susse Chalet in the 7300 block of Crestmount Road at 5: 30 a.m. Friday, said Sgt. Steven Keller, a police spokesman. Collins was not injured.The robber, who ran toward U.S. 1, was described as a 25- to 30-year-old black man, 6-feet-1-inch tall, wearing a hooded blue sweat shirt and dark pants.

A Laurel man was robbed of $140 at a Laurel bank branch's automated teller machine Saturday by a man who shoved a gun into his face, county police said.Jeffrey Arlen Woodard, 37, told police he was withdrawing money from the ATM at the Citizens National Bank branch on Route 198 shortly after 2 a.m. when a man approached him and held a gun to his face.The man demanded money, and Woodard complied.The gunman ran across Route 198 toward the Drexel Park Apartments, police said.Officers used a dog to track the man but did not find him.Police did not have a description of the gunman.

A New York man was robbed at a pay phone in Harmans yesterday by a man with a gem-studded bandanna, county police said.Daniel Bruce Mooney of Governors Island told police he was making a call near Old Telegraph and Dorsey roads at 1:10 a.m. when a man dressed in black and wearing a black bandanna decorated with gems walked up to him and asked his name.Mr. Mooney said he ignored the man and finished the call but that when he turned around, the man stuck something into his ribs and asked what he had in his pocket.

A 49-year-old Severn man was robbed late Tuesday as he stopped to retrieve aluminum cans from a garbage can while he was riding his bicycle near Severn-Danza Park, county police said yesterday.Police said Tom C. Baker of the 8200 block of Deerfield Circle had bent down to pick up a can about 11:30 p.m. when a man walked up behind him, grabbed him by the chest and held a sharp, cold object to his throat while another person went through his pockets and took a $10 bill, a $5 gold-colored watch and a $79 portable radio.

A Glen Burnie man was robbed and beaten early yesterday by three menwho asked him the time, county police reported.Detectives said the 32-year-old man had dropped off a hitchhiker about 2:30 a.m. on Whitacker Road in Freetown Village when three men stopped him and askedthe time.When the man told them the time, one of the three grabbed his watch and ran toward Levi Court. The victim followed the trio to Levi Court and asked for his watch back. One of the men gave the watch back,but the three then beat him, police said.

Man robbed at knifepoint in homeA 23-year-old man was robbed at knifepoint Wednesday morning by a man who broke into his basement apartment and threatened to kill him if he told anyone about the crime, police reported.According to police, the burglar forced his way into the apartment in the 7800 block of Mayford Avenue about 10 a.m. and woke the resident, who walked into the kitchen and found the burglar with a knife.The burglar told the man to sit down and asked if he had any money. When the resident said "no," the burglar asked about the upstairs apartment.
