Man Was Beaten

A Millersville man was beaten and robbed Tuesday in the Old Mill area by an acquaintance, county police said.Joshua Lee Armstrong, 19, told police he was walking with his girlfriend to her car on Millwright Court when a man he knew as Jason approached and asked his name.The man cursed at Armstrong and threatened to beat him, police said. He pushed Armstrong to the ground, punched him in the face, took $40 from his pants pocket and ran away, police said.Police did not have a complete description of the man.Pub Date: 10/10/96

The death of a man who was found beaten in a Southwest Baltimore alley in 2006 and died in May has been added to this year's homicide total, police said. Each year, several people die from injuries suffered in previous years, and their deaths are added to the current year's homicide total so authorities aren't constantly changing previous year's statistics. A 33-year-old New Jersey man was beaten and robbed early yesterday as he walked from a Cape St. Clair restaurant to his car, county police reported.Michael Barb, of Bridgewater, N.J., told police he left Bella's, in the 1300 block of Cape St. Claire Road, at about 2:30 a.m. and was walking toward College Parkway when two men jumped him and began hitting him, police said.When they demanded his money, Mr. Barb gave them an undisclosed amount of cash, then ran to his car, which was parked nearby, the police report said.

Friends and family of Ellison McCall Jr., who was brutally beaten and set on fire after earlier intervening in a bar fight in Northeast Baltimore, held a vigil Sunday to celebrate his life and press for answers on the year anniversary of his death. "This was a good guy," said friend Floyd Benton Jr. "He had no enemies. " McCall, 30, was working as a bartender at the New Haven Lounge a year ago and got into an altercation with some patrons, friends told The Baltimore Sun at the time.

A 25-year-old Severn man was beaten with a baseball bat Saturday morning as he attempted to break up a fight.A witness told police that Marcus John Sansone of Stevenson Road was attacked about 1 a.m. in a home in the 8200 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd.Mr. Sansone told police that some of his friends knew the assailant but that he could not remember the name.Mr. Sansone received stitches to his head and neck at North Arundel Hospital and was released.

A 53-year-old man was beaten with a pipe and stabbed to death late Friday at a group home in the 3600 block of West Belvedere Ave. in Pimlico, police said yesterday.Police said the victim, whom they have not identified, was attacked after an argument about 10: 30 p.m. Friday.Kaghal Coleman, 21, also a resident of the home for the homeless and mentally ill, was arrested early Saturday and charged with first-degree murder. He had turned himself over to Baltimore County police, authorities said.

Man beaten, robbed in lot outside barA 46-year-old man was beaten and robbed of $6 outside the Brass Rail Pub in the 8100 block of Hog Neck Road in Pasadena early Friday, police said.According to the police report, the victim was in the parking lot at 12:49 a.m. when a man walked up to him and demanded money. The suspect began beating him, threw the victim to the ground and kicked him before taking the money.The robber left the parking lot in a blue Chevrolet pickup truck possibly with another man. Duvall, 43, was treated at Harbor Hospital Center for several cuts to his head.Duvall told police he was walking along Townsend Avenue shortly after 6: 30 p.m. when a man approached and another man sneaked up and began beating him, police said.Duvall was knocked to the ground and beaten unconscious, police said. When he regained consciousness, he realized money was missing from his wallet, police said.

The man was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was pronounced dead about 7:30 p.m. Police at the scene said officers initially thought the man had been shot in the face, but later said it appeared that the victim was beaten with an unknown object.

A Pumphrey man was beaten and robbed but not seriously injured Wednesday evening as he walked to a friend's house, county police said.Gregory Tyrone Stepney, 26, of the 200 block of Bishop Ave. was walking behind the Pioneer Food Market in the 1100 block of Reece Road shortly after 9 p.m. when three men approached him, police said.One threw him to the ground, then the group asked for money, police said. Mr. Stepney gave the men $10, but the small amount appeared to anger them, he reported.

State prison officials are continuing to investigate the fatal beating of a 39-year-old man who was apparently attacked as he lay sleeping in his bed at the Baltimore Pre-Release Unit on Aug. 18. Douglas A. Smith of O'Donnell Heights had three months left to serve on a parole violation when he was found mortally wounded in his dormitory bed. He lapsed into a coma after emergency surgery and died Aug. 23 at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Prison officials said Smith appeared to have been beaten in the head with a stool.

A Prince George's County teen-ager accused of assaulting a man who confronted him and a friend in North Laurel about an earlier robbery pleaded guilty to an assault charge yesterday. Howard County Circuit Judge Diane O. Leasure sentenced Dominic Timothy Brown, 18, of Laurel to five years in prison, but suspended all but 152 days - the amount of time he has been in jail since his arrest. He also was placed on three years of supervised probation. Brown and a friend, Dorsel Nathaniel Knight, were charged in the stabbing and beating June 29 of Jason Martino, 21, who sought them out after his girlfriend's brother was robbed.

A Jessup man was beaten Sunday afternoon on the lot of a Friendly's restaurant in the 7100 block of Ritchie Highway, police said.Daniel Gregory Suite, 20, of the 7300 block of Wye Ave. received several cuts to his face but was not hospitalized. He told police he was driving south on Crain Highway about 5:30 p.m. when a blue Toyota pickup cut him off.Mr. Suite pulled onto the restaurant's lot. The truck followed him, then drove past him, police said, and returned a few moments later when Mr. Suite got out to order food.

A Brooklyn Park man was arrested and charged with battery Tuesday afternoon after another man was slashed, police said.Floyd Williams, 26, was treated at Harbor Hospital Center for cuts on two fingers of his right hand, a cut on his left wrist and one on his left cheek, police said.Mr. Williams told police that another man punched him in the face and slashed him with a box cutter. Before the attack, the man told the victim, "This is for Denise," police said.The victim said he knew his attacker, police said.

The victim of Monday's beating in an Annapolis public housing complex said yesterday he might have died if a police officer had not shot his assailants, one of whom died.Annapolis police said Cochise Ornandez Daughtry, 18, and Vernon Eugene Estep Jr., 19, both of Annapolis, were beating Carlester Jackson with a broken bottle when a police officer shot them, killing Daughtry."I think if that officer wasn't there, I wouldn't be here right now," Jackson said from his bed at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
