Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes from police reports in Baltimore and Baltimore County. Baltimore Southern Stabbing -- Police were seeking a man who entered a barber shop in the 3500 block of 10th St. in Brooklyn, armed with a butcher knife, about 5:15 p.m. Saturday and pursued the barber to a back room. There, the man stabbed the 25-year-old barber in the head and back before fleeing. The victim was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. His condition was not available yesterday.

Highland Ave. about midnight Wednesday when he was shot in the leg. He was treated at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and released.Southern DistrictShooting: A man was riding a bicycle in the 2200 block of W. Patapsco Ave. about 1: 15 a.m. Wednesday when a passenger in a passing car shot him in the right elbow and right knee. He was in good condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday.

Three men, one of them armed with a semiautomatic rifle and another with a shotgun, robbed a Glen Burnie gun store of several handguns Wednesday, county police said.Joe Weber, 54, an employee, told police the men walked into Bart's Sporting Goods in the 6800 block of Ritchie Highway about 7: 30 p.m. and the man with the rifle fired a round into the ceiling.He ordered all employees to the ground while the man with the shotgun and the third man jumped over the gun counter, police said. The second gunman held his shotgun over one of the employees who was behind the counter and the third man took several handguns from the display case, police said.

Karl D. Richard, a security officer at the Glen Burnie Wal-Mart, accused two men of trying to steal cigarettes in separate incidents on one day, county police said.In the first incident, Mr. Richard saw a man walk into the store in the 7900 block of Crain Highway about 4 p.m. Thursday, pick up a carton of Marlboros and carry it to another section, where he hid it in his pants, police said. Mr. Richard caught the man in the parking lot and held him for police.Two hours later, the security officer saw a man and two women take two cartons of Kools and four watches, together worth $40, police said.

A Linthicum man who was stabbed during a fight Saturday morning in an apartment in the 6800 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. was in critical condition yesterday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.Gary A. Curtin, 34, was bleeding from his left side when police arrived at the scene shortly after 3 a.m.He had come to the apartment to find an ex-girlfriend, police said.He kicked in the apartment door and assaulted another man after shouting obscenities at him, police said.Witnesses said Mr. Curtin attacked the other man twice before the man grabbed two knives from the kitchen and stabbed him, police said.

An Edgewater man died yesterday morning when his car spun out of control on Route 214 and slammed into a tree, county police said.Donovan Patrick Smith, 22, of the 800 block of Severn Ave. was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Mr. Smith lost control of his 1968 Dodge Dart about midnight on a curve.The car crossed the center line, spun around, hit a large oak tree, flipped over on its roof and landed upside down in a ditch, police said.Mr. Smith was apparently speeding, police said.

A 26-year-old man who tried to help a woman fend off an attacker yesterday afternoon in the Barclay neighborhood was stabbed in the chest after a brief chase, police said.James Hall, who lives in the 600 block of East 27th St., was listed in fair condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital with a stab wound near his heart.Police said a man kicked in the door of a rowhouse in the 2200 block of Barclay St. about 12:20 p.m. and assaulted the woman inside. Mr. Hall, who was visiting, intervened, but the man attacked him with a 12-inch knife, police said.

Glen Burnie man stabbed in bar fightA Glen Burnie man told police he was stabbed early Saturday morning during a fight with another man over a girlfriend.According to the police report, Matthew Whitacre, 23, of the 200 block of Maine Ave., was inside the Precinct Bar on Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard when an unidentified man began talking to his girlfriend.Whitacre told the man not speak to his girlfriend and began arguing with him.At 2:50 a.m., Whitacre and his girlfriend were leaving the bar when the man began beating him and stabbed him in the back, the police report said.

JERUSALEM -- An Arab man stabbed to death four Jewish women in a park yesterday, calling his crime "a message" to Secretary of State James A. Baker III on the eve of his visit to Israel to promote peace between Arabs and Jews, police said.Police Commissioner Yaakov Terner told Israel's Army Radio that the Palestinian assailant "said himself, unequivocally, in English, that this is 'a message to Baker.' "Commissioner Terner did not elaborate on what precisely the comment meant. But he said that police would beef up already heightened security for Mr. Baker's three-day visit, which begins today.

A 24-year-old West Baltimore man was fatally stabbed early today during an argument prompted by a bottle of beer.City police said the victim, John Taylor of the 3000 block of W. North Ave., was stabbed in the chest at the home of his girlfriend in the 700 block of N. Gilmor St. at 1:45 a.m. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.Police arrested Andrea Moore, 25, of the Gilmor Street address, and charged her with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon. Moore was being held at the Women's Detention Center awaiting a bail hearing before a court commissioner.

Man accused of killing missing wife free on bail A Rosedale man accused of killing his missing wife was released Monday from the Baltimore County Detention Center after posting $50,000 bail, according to his attorney. Dennis J. Tetso is at home with a monitoring device and will be allowed to work until his Nov. 17 trial, set by Baltimore County Circuit Judge Patrick Cavanaugh. Police arrested Tetso at his job Thursday, and he was later charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, four years after she disappeared on her way to a Motley Crue concert.

Police, FBI search for Joppatowne bank robber A man robbed the Bank of America branch at the Joppatowne Plaza Shopping Center at 10 a.m. yesterday, taking an unknown amount of cash, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said. The robber escaped on foot, and was tracked into Baltimore County, where officials said they lost his trail. The sheriff's office released photos of the man (left) taken from surveillance video. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Detective Phil Golden at 410-836-5430 or the FBI at 410-879-5240.

Man stabbed after stopping to help A 46-year-old man who stopped to help three people on the side of the road in Severn early yesterday was repeatedly stabbed by one of them, Anne Arundel county police said. The man was driving south on Telegraph Road near Route 100 when he saw a man and two women on the side of the road. According to police, the two men got into a dispute and the driver was stabbed in the head, chest and stomach with a knife. The victim drove himself to a nearby fire station where he was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

A Carroll County teenager is accused of stabbing his brother yesterday, sending him to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. Taneytown police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of E. Baltimore St. about 1 p.m. yesterday, police said. When they arrived, they found Jason T. Blizzard, 23, with at least one chest wound. They arrested his brother, Ryan W. Blizzard, 16, and charged him as an adult with attempted murder and assault. Several witnesses were being questioned, police said.

Baltimore Northwestern Homicide victim identified -- Police identified Richard Ray, 27, of the 3700 block of Woodbine Ave. yesterday as the man stabbed about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday during an argument with another man in the 5200 block of Fairlawn Ave. Ray died a short time later at Sinai Hospital. Police said it was unknown whether Ray was related to Keith Ray, 24, of the 300 block of E. Lorraine Ave., whose body was found Tuesday afternoon in a woods off the 600 block of Wyman Park Drive.

Joppa man was found fatally stabbed early yesterday in a parking lot in Edgewood, Harford County sheriff's deputies said. About 2 a.m., two passers-by saw the wounded David Arnold Byrd, 30, lying in the 1900 block of Edgewater Drive, said Sgt. Chris Presberry, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office. Byrd, of the 400 block of Latimer Road, had been stabbed in the torso. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead, Presberry said. Presberry said police have no suspects in Byrd's killing.

Baltimore Western Shooting -- A 24-year-old man was leaving a store in the 1800 block of Presstman St. about 10 p.m. Wednesday when someone fired a shot that struck him in the right leg. The victim was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, and he refused to cooperate with police. Southwestern Arrest -- Daniel Jones, 15, was arrested yesterday at his home in the 400 block of S. Beechfield Ave. on a warrant charging him as an adult with attempted murder.
