Two diamond engagement rings worth $9,500 were stolen from Kay Jewelers in Annapolis Mall Monday, county police said.Tracie R. Brown, 22, a store employee, told police a man walked into the store about 8: 40 p.m. and asked to examine with a gem scope two 1-carat rings with gold bands.The man grabbed the rings and fled into the mall entrance of Hecht's department store.Mall security was alerted but did not apprehend the man, police said.Pub Date: 2/20/97

Purse snatched in Owen BrownHoward County police said a purse snatcher grabbed a 38-year-old woman's purse Thursday night as she walked in Owen Brown and fled with $150 in cash.About 9 p.m. Thursday, the victim and her husband were at the Owen Brown Village Center in the 7200 block of Cradlerock Way when a man grabbed the woman's purse from behind, police said.The purse contained $150 in cash and other personal property, police said.The Columbia woman received a minor cut on a finger, police said.

Police search for suspect in robberyPolice are searching for the man who robbed an 88-year-old Brooklyn Park man after the victim agreed to lend him some money Friday afternoon.County police said Ernest L. Griffiths of the 400 block of Townsend Ave. was approached near the victim's home about 1:30 p.m. Friday.Police said the suspect, whom Mr. Griffiths had hired previously to do yard work, asked him if he had any money he could spare.As Mr. Griffiths was about to hand the suspect $5, the man grabbed on undetermined amount of cash, pushed Mr. Griffiths away and fled the house.

A man snatched a purse from a Wilde Lake village woman at the Village Green last week, Howard County police reported.Police said Dorothy Rodbell, 58, of the 10500 Block of Catterskill Court had just parked her vehicle near the NationsBank Thursday afternoon when a man grabbed her purse from her right shoulder.He took out her wallet, threw the purse away and ran.The thief was described as black, 5 feet 7 inches tall, in his early 20s with a muscular build.He was wearing a black T-shirt with a brightly colored emblem, dark shorts and a cap.POLICE LOG* Town Center: The Mall in Columbia parking lot: A red 1987 Chevrolet Iroc Camaro with Maryland license plates RGW-279 was stolen between 1 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. Thursday.

Police are looking for a man who snatched a purse in the parking lot of an Annapolis department store Monday morning.Police said a Glen Burnie woman, 24, was in the parking lot of the J. C. Penney store at Annapolis Mall about 9: 40 a.m. when a man grabbed the purse off her shoulder and ran toward Jennifer Plaza.The woman told police that her purse's contents included credit cards, an ATM card and $10.The thief is described as a white male in his early 20s, about 5 feet 11, 130 pounds, and wearing a white baseball cap, a white T-shirt and baggy shorts.

Maryland Transportation Authority police seek a 33-year-old man suspected of assaulting two officers who tried to stop a domestic dispute at Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Sgt. Robert Hurley and Officer Stephen Mackey arrived at the airport parking lot about 11:30 p.m. Friday and discovered a man assaulting his girlfriend, who had just gotten off a plane, according to an MTA police spokesman. When the officers intervened, the man grabbed Hurley's throat and punched Mackey in the face before fleeing in a car, the spokesman said.

Anne Arundel County police are searching for a man who robbed a pizza delivery driver Saturday night in Glen Burnie. A Papa John's Pizza driver made a delivery to the 8000 block of Green Bud Lane about 8 p.m. As he was walking back to his vehicle, a man pulled a revolver and placed it to the driver's head, police said. The driver attempted to run, but the man grabbed him and told him to "give it up," police said. The driver gave his money to the robber, who fled, police said. They described the robber as a black male, 5 foot 9, about 190 pounds, who wore a dark sweat shirt and a red baseball cap.

A Sykesville woman recovered her purse from a man who grabbed it from the front seat of her vehicle while she was loading groceries outside Martin's Food Market in Eldersburg on Sunday morning, police said. The woman, 33, told police she ran after the man and grabbed her purse outside the store in the 6300 block of Georgetown Blvd. She told them he pushed her to the ground and threw the purse toward the store and fled. She told them she had noticed a white Mustang parked in front of her 1996 GMC Jimmy when the incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. The man was described as white and in his 20s, about 5 feet 5 inches and 140 pounds, with sores on his face.

A New York man was robbed at a pay phone in Harmans yesterday by a man with a gem-studded bandanna, county police said.Daniel Bruce Mooney of Governors Island told police he was making a call near Old Telegraph and Dorsey roads at 1:10 a.m. when a man dressed in black and wearing a black bandanna decorated with gems walked up to him and asked his name.Mr. Mooney said he ignored the man and finished the call but that when he turned around, the man stuck something into his ribs and asked what he had in his pocket.

A man held a knife to the throat of a North Laurel gas station clerk until she gave him money late Friday, Howard County police said.The victim was not injured.According to police, the man was dropped off at the Crown gas station in the 9200 block of All Saints Road from a small gray car about 10:25 p.m. After lingering at the gas station for 10 minutes, the man grabbed the clerk, threatened her with the knife and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.The robber was described as a black male in his mid-20s, weighing 175 pounds and wearing a black sweat suit and a black knit cap, police said.
