Man robs pizza shop, manager at gunpointA man carrying a large automatic handgun robbed a pizza shop in Arnold early Saturday morning, getting away with an undetermined amount of money.Police said the man walked into PaPa John's in the 1400 block of Ritchie Highway about 1:45 a.m. and ordered the employees to lie on the floor.He then told the manager, Thomas Roy Russell, 21, to give him money from the cash register.After he was given a small amount of cash, police said the man demanded more and had Mr. Russell empty his pockets, a cash box and a duffel bag. The robber left the store after forcing the employees to the back of the restaurant.

A 23-year-old Annapolis man was being held on $3,500 bond at the county jail on charges of child abuse, battery and third-degree sexual assault.According to police reports, the man was baby-sitting an 11-year-old girl in his home when the alleged assault occurred Friday night.The girl told police the man came into her bedroom, fondled her, then told her to go back to sleep. Instead, she crept out of the house, went home and told her mother what had happened.Casey H. Brooks of the 1100 block of Frederick Douglas St. was arrested early Saturday.

A man claiming to be a vendor for the "Winston Salem Cigarette Co." walked into the Royal Farm store in the 300 block of Camp Meade Road in Linthicum Friday and stole 21 cartons of cigarettes, police said.The man entered the store between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and told the store manager he had come to replace all of the company's cigarettes with promotional discounted cartons, police said.The store manager led the man into the storage area. The man took the cartons of Winston and Salem cigarettes and told the manager he was taking them out to his vehicle, police said.

The driver of a sparkling new Toyota Avalon pulled over on Eutaw Street and talked with Loretta Young, a small, young woman dressed in green Spandex tights and a windbreaker.Within minutes, Baltimore police officers swarmed the car and arrested the driver, a salesman for a Toyota dealership."I didn't give her anything," the 29-year-old man pleaded."You don't have to give her anything," replied Sgt. Craig Gentile, as he handcuffed his suspect. "She's an undercover police officer. Any questions?"

In Baltimore City Parents, kids asked to wash hands to prevent infection Noting a big jump in the number of Baltimore cases of a bacterial infection common in children, Dr. Peter L. Beilenson, city health commissioner, is urging parents and children to practice good hygiene, especially hand-washing. This year, 84 cases of the intestinal infection, called Shigella, have been reported in the city -- more than twice the number for all of last year. Doctors have noted the increase mostly in children ages 1 to 4, especially in day care centers.

Wanted man arrested after ride in taxicab An Annapolis man who was recently featured on the Anne Arundel County's Most Wanted TV show was arrested after an officer recognized him as a passenger in a passing taxicab, city police said. The officer knew that the man in the cab - on Bywater Road approaching Copeland Street around 12:30 a.m. Thursday - was Keith Bithol Williams, 21, of Admiral Drive, and that he was wanted on a warrant for first-degree assault. He is charged with firing numerous shots into an apartment on Newtowne Drive on May 18 after arguing with one of the residents.

Baltimore County police announced today that they have arrested Justin Anthony Glover Jr., 24, and charged him with the murder of Wesley Person, whose burned body was found along Interstate 83 on Dec. 24. Police said that Person and Glover knew each other and that the motive for the murder may have been that the victim owed Glover money. Glover lives in the 1400 block of State St. in Harrisburg, Pa. The victim was from Steelton, Pa., just outside of Harrisburg, police said. Glover turned himself in to police Tuesday at 2 p.m. He was taken before a court commissioner and denied bail, authorities said.

A Capitol Heights man was arrested on drug charges Sunday night and his car and $181 were seized, county police said.Alfred Nathaniel Riley, 19, of the 4100 block of Southern Ave. was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.An officer patrolling Crain Highway about 6 p.m. noticed a 1986 Toyota with a broken windshield and no Maryland license plate on the front of the car.The officer pulled the vehicle over at Ritchie Highway and Dover Road in Glen Burnie and asked the driver for his license.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man in the stabbing of another man during a fight in a gas station in Reisterstown. Darren Jay Burke, who has no fixed address, was picked up Thursday in Baltimore after last-month's assault of a 20-year-old man at a Shell station in the 11900 block of Reisterstown Road. On Oct. 12, Baltimore County police obtained an arrest warrant for Burke, whom they had been unable to find for questioning, and issued a public appeal for help in tracking him down.
