An off-duty Baltimore police cadet was arrested in Glen Burnie after police said he hit a woman with a car in a domestic incident Thursday, the day before he was set to graduate from the academy. Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the cadet, Zachary Michael Mitchell, 24, has been suspended from Friday's graduation ceremonies and police expect he will be terminated. Anne Arundel County police said they were told by a witness in the 100 block of Plymouth Lane about 4:30 p.m. that a man and woman had been fighting in the parking lot of an apartment building and that the man struck the woman with a car. The couple later went inside an apartment in the complex, where Mitchell lives, according to police.

Hours before hordes of children hit the streets last night in search of Halloween treats, a man and woman filed a civil suit claiming they became sick after eating pesticide-tainted candy purchased at a Brooklyn Park supermarket.In the suit, filed yesterday in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, the man and woman claim they suffered burning lips, sore throats, stomach pains, kidney pains, gas, ringing in the ears and muscle aches after eating M&M's candy.The man and woman claim they bought a sealed bag of the candy at a Farm Fresh supermarket in Brooklyn Park on May 9, 1989.

Police are searching for a man and woman who might have used stolen credit cards to make purchases in the Baltimore metro area. The credit cards were stolen on June 14 from William S. James Elementary School in Abingdon, according to a statement released Friday by the Harford County Sheriff's Office. After the theft, the cards were fraudulently used in Abingdon, Bel Air and the Baltimore area, police said. Security camera footage show the man and woman driving a white Dodge Charger sedan.

An elderly man and woman were found dead in a Pikesville home Monday afternoon with injuries that led Baltimore County police to begin investigating their deaths as homicides. Police identified them today as Vaughn George Pepper, 87; and Marjorie Marie Pepper, 85. Police believe the two were killed in a home in the Sudbrook Park neighborhood, and they are looking for a third party, said Cpl. Cathy Batton, a police spokeswoman. Police said they do not believe that this was a random crime, but caution that the investigation is continuing.

A Severna Park man and woman were arrested Monday morning after they drove a car containing guns and drugs onto a school parking lot, police said.William Dehn, 20, of the 400 block of McBrides Lane and Gwyn Shovelski, 20, of the first block of Severndale Road were charged with trespassing on school property, possession of marijuana, and possession of firearms on school property. The two are being held at the county detention center on $35,000 bond each, police said.An employee of the Meridian Nursing Center, adjacent to the school in the first block of Truck House Road called police about 1: 25 a.m. about a suspicious vehicle in the school parking lot.When Eastern District officers Anthony Frank Tortorici and Brent Matthew Weaver arrived, they found a 1990 Toyota Tercel in the lot of Oak Hill Elementary School.

A 64-year-old man was robbed and beaten with his own walking stick after a group of six teenagers and young men attacked him in a parking lot at the Glen Burnie Towne Center late Tuesday night, according to Anne Arundel County Police. The incident was one of two robberies reported in the area within several hours of one another. The man flagged a patrol officer down about 11:15 p.m. to report the incident near the Toys R Us store in the 6700 block of Ritchie Highway, police said.

Baltimore city police are investigating a double shooting early Thursday in the Franklin Square neighborhood on the west side. A man and woman were walking in the 200 block of N. Carey St., between West Lexington and West Saratoga streets, shortly before 1 a.m. They were approached from behind by an unknown suspect, who shot both of them, police said. State Police at the Belair barracks were investigating the shooting deaths of a man and woman whose bodies were found early today in the 3700 block of Jarrettsville Pike off Houcks Mill Road, south of Madonna.Preliminary indications were that the case was murder-suicide brought on by domestic problems, police said.Sidney Lyle Roberts, 57, and Helen Wallis Roberts, 52, were pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 1 a.m.Each was found in the front seats of separate automobiles in front of a house, police said.

Maryland would like to change the definition of marriage. How can two things that are inherently different be defined by the same word? When we say marriage, we know the parameters. It is the union of a man and woman. The consummation of the marriage is an important step. The fruit of their union has the potential to create another human being which makes union essential for the continuing existence of humanity. This is vastly different from the union of same-sex couples. Their relationship does not involve a man and woman.

An off-duty Annapolis police officer exchanged gunfire yesterday morning with a man police said tried rob him of his rental car in front of an automated bank machine in Northeast Baltimore.No one was injured in the shootout involving Officer Wilbert Strickland, 33, a seven-year veteran, who police said fired his 9 mm Beretta service revolver at least three times in front of a NationsBank in the 3400 block of Belair Road.Police had not made an arrest yesterday in what is becoming a familiar pattern in Baltimore.
