Mary Ann Malinowski, a homemaker and former longtime Southeast Baltimore resident, died Oct. 22 of complications from dementia at Keswick Multi-Care Center. She was 93. Mary Ann Essel was born and raised in a home on Elsrode Avenue. She was a graduate of the old St. Paul's Secretarial School, family members said. She was married in 1936 to Walter S. Malinowski Sr., who was chief maintenance engineer at the Esskay meatpacking plant in Highlandtown. He died in 1981. Mrs. Malinowski lived on Woodstock Avenue in Southeast Baltimore before moving to Keswick about 20 years ago. She had been a den mother for Cub Scout Troop 92 and was a fan of the Roman Catholic Shrine of the Little Flower's Drum and Bugle Corps.

On January 29, 2007, BERNARD PAUL MALINOWSKI, beloved husband of Jane Malinowski, loving stepfather of Cindy Jolliffe and James Meyerhoeffer, devoted grandfather of Amy, Jason and Kaileigh Jolliffe, dear brother of William Malinowski and Timothy Malinowski. Also survived by son-in-law Robert Jolliffe, many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., at BARRANCO & SONS SEVERNA PARK FUNERAL HOME, Ritchie Highway and Robinson Road. Services will be held on Thursday at 11 A.M., at the funeral home.

(nee Malinowski) LICATO; beloved wife of the late Samuel Licato; devoted mother of Anthony Licato and his wife Elaine and Lauren Licato and boyfriend Anthony Jones; loving grandmother of Christopher Licato; sister of Rita White, Dorothy Clifford and the late Florian, Bernard, Marion Malinowski, Theresa Needleman, Jeanette Cichowicz, Virginia Daniels, Nora Bruni and Helen Szczybor. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday 10 A.M at St. Anthony's Church.

The northern edge of Fallujah, Iraq, was no place to be on Thanksgiving Day 2004. Gunfire reverberated in the distance, and the "safe" ground occupied by Ed Malinowski and his crew of Marine drivers and mechanics felt anything but safe. But these American men, forced to spend a holiday in a dangerous and distant land, thought of football. If they couldn't watch the NFL with a turkey leg in one hand and a beer in the other, they wanted to play. Malinowski, who had played quarterback at the Naval Academy, remembered a game his linemen had created.
