If the Major Soccer League can change its name, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Blast is changing its colors.Color the team blue and gray beginning today. Gone are the colors of red, yellow, orange and white -- except in the team logo, which will continue to be the exploding soccer ball. The Blast has been identified by those colors for all of its 10 years, just as the league has been known as the Major Indoor Soccer League for its 12 seasons. The new uniforms were to be on display this morning during a news conference at the Blast offices in Canton.

Baltimore Blast general manager John Borozzi said last night that Tim Wittman will be put on the 18-man roster tomorrow if he signs an amendment to his $52,000-a-year contract.Borozzi wouldn't give any details of the amendment, but Wittman, who has failed two team physicals because of a degenerative disk, most likely is being asked to accept less money until he passes a physical and plays for the Blast.Borozzi said he and Major Soccer League commissioner Earl Foreman worked out the agreement to have Wittman on the roster.

The first question Blast coach Kenny Cooper may have to ask this week is: "Does anyone have hay fever?"That and other questions are on Cooper's mind today, as he wonders how his indoor soccer team will fare outdoors. He'll get the answer on April 28, when the Major Soccer League's Blast faces the Maryland Bays, the defending champion of the American Professional Soccer League in an exhibition game at UMBC (5:30 p.m.)."I'm looking forward to it," said Bays owner John Liparini. "It should be fun and it will be a good warmup for our season opener the following week."
