The new "Madden" game came out on Tuesday, which partially explains why I wasn't blogging very often Tuesday and Wednesday. Are any of you "Madden" junkies out there having trouble beating your buddies at the game? If so, Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis is here to motivate you with this video and the one I have posted below.

The whitewash of Ray Rice's very existence continued Tuesday morning with news that the next Madden 15 video game update from EA Sports would wipe the former Ravens running back from the game. Rice was cut by the team and suspended indefinitely by the National Football League after video emerged of him knocking his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, unconscious in an Atlantic City casino. FoxSports.com and USAToday.com each reported from EA Sports that Rice would be removed from the Ravens roster and the free agency pool in the popular video game.

As if anyone needed a reminder of how last year's Ravens campaign went, EA Sports' Madden player ratings are out, and the top-rated player on the Ravens is none other than kicker Justin Tucker. Tucker is rated as a 93 overall, one point ahead of defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, who is a 92. The Madden screen grab above shows Ngata as the top player, but I'm pretty sure 93 is a higher number than 92, so for our purposes Tucker is the highest rated player. The team is rated 84 overall, second in the division behind Cincinnati (86)

Remember back in September when a running back that Terrell Suggs had never heard of rumbled for 144 yards and a touchdown against the Ravens? Well that no-name back is now the cover boy for the next installment of the popular "Madden" franchise. Browns running back Peyton Hillis won a bracket-style tournament using fan votes to determine which player EA Sports would put on the "Madden 2012" cover. Hillis beat out players such as Ray Rice and Aaron Rodgers on the way to the finals, where he nearly doubled up Michael Vick to get his mug put on video game boxes.

This year's Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes have reminded America about what's great about horse racing. California Chrome has been a display of magnificence, and his story, and those of his trainer and owners, have been endearingly human. The mere possibility of the first Triple Crown winner in nearly four decades has rekindled the optimism that must be at the heart of every racing fan. But this year's Belmont Stakes has the potential to remind America about what's so maddening about horse racing.

Get ready for some possible Cameron Diaz sightings in Maryland. Multiple outlets, including Us Weekly magazine and gossip site X17online.com, are reporting that the actress is dating Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden. Benji and his bandmate/brother Joel Madden, were both born and raised in Waldorf. Representatives for both Diaz, 41, and Madden, 35, did not comment on the report. "A source" told Us : "It's very new" and they're "just hanging out. " Madden has been previously linked to Paris Hilton (so this is a bit of an upgrade, if true)

Neither Ray Lewis nor Ray Rice will be on the cover of the next “Madden,” if you care about this sort of thing. Both players were eliminated in the Sweet Sixteen of the 64-player bracket to determine who will be on the cover of “Madden NFL 25,” which is the 25th anniversary edition of the popular pigskin video game franchise. Lewis, who retired after the Ravens won the Super Bowl in February, was knocked out of the “old school” bracket by former Detroit Lions back and fellow NFL legend Barry Sanders, who got 67 percent of the fan vote.

SANTA CLARA -- Jim Harbaugh's preparations for Super Bowl XLVII took an unexpected turn Friday morning when he called into a sports-talk radio show. Not just any show, however. Harbaugh took notes while listening to sage advice from Pro Football Hall of Fame coach John Madden, who hosts a daily segment on KCBS 740-AM. Madden coached the Raiders to their first Super Bowl championship, a 32-14 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XI in January 1977. Harbaugh will try matching that feat Feb. 3 when his 49ers face the Baltimore Ravens in New Orleans.

There is certainly no shortage of outstanding leading men working in American TV drama these days. Jon Hamm, Damian Lewis and Michael C. Hall to name a few. But it would be hard to find any whose proven range is greater than that of Dominic West, star of BBC America's "The Hour. " It extends from Detective Jimmy McNulty raging drunk in a grimy Baltimore train yard late at night in HBO's "The Wire," to Professor Henry Higgins prancing across the stage in tweeds with Eliza Doolittle in an English revival of "My Fair Lady" that opened last week.

"Madden NFL 13" EA Sports Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 Score: 3 stars out of 4 The "Madden" series hasn't quite lived up to expectations since eliminating competing NFL franchises in 2005. Still, it is taken for granted how much EA Sports maximizes its exclusive license with the NFL to produce video games that allow fans to come as close as most ever will to an NFL field. The knock on “Madden” is that it's the same year-in and year-out. “Madden NFL 13” absolutely disproves that notion, though “different” doesn't automatically mean “better.” Like it's little brother, “NCAA Football,” this year's edition of “Madden” has fine-tuned its passing game to mirror the throw-happy offenses in the real NFL. Receivers run their routes in a less robotic fashion than previous editions, and as a quarterback, the player has a real opportunity to put the ball where they want.

There was a time when some Republicans and Democrats believed GOP Sen. Martin G. Madden might get re-elected by default this year. Amazingly, no opponent surfaced until recent weeks in what has traditionally been a Democratic district, stretching from southern Howard County into northern Prince George's County. Now a Democrat, local party activist Raymond Rankin of Columbia, is running against Madden. But the incumbent has a big head start. He has been knocking on constituents' doors for more than a year under the assumption that he would have opposition.

Electronic Arts has reached preliminary settlement with the consumer protection law firm Hagens Berman, who filed suit against the company for violating antitrust and consumer protection laws in making its popular football video games. The settlement has not been approved by U.S District Court, but if it is confirmed as it stands, a $27 million fund would be set up to pay out purchasers of EA's football games since 2005. According to a press release by Hagens Berman, the suit was originally filed in 2008.

The new Madden NFL won't be out for a few months but judging from the way Ray Lewis acts on the game's trailer, it's safe to say they've sold at least one. In the minute and a half long trailer, released online this week by EA Sports, Lewis lets loose an impassioned stream of dialogue that's part poetry, part prayer. He doesn't mention the game. But that's kind of beside the point. It opens with soft, somber, piano music -- none of that thumping bass that usually introduces anything selling football.
