Even as the General Assembly prepares to return to Annapolis this week to discuss the expansion of gambling, one of Maryland's three casinos has asked its oversight agency to take back about a third of the slot machines because of declining revenue. Penn National Gaming Inc., which operates Hollywood Casino Perryville, is "prepared to unconditionally return between 400 and 500 of our machines to the State, without any expectation of a licensee fee refund or any right to reclaim those machines," wrote Carl Sottosanti, a Penn National vice president, in a letter last week to the Maryland Lottery's director.

Maryland's newest slots casino is expanding Thursday evening, opening more floor space with over 500 additional gambling machines and another bar. At 6 p.m., the two-month-old Maryland Live Casino at Arundel Mills mall will open the Rams Head Bar and additional floor space with 531 more slot machines and electronic table games, according to a statement released Thursday by the casino. The Cordish Cos., the owner and operator of the $500 million casino that opened June 6, expects to complete the facility by the end of November.

U-19 men's lacrosse U.S. beats Canada; gold streak intact The U.S. under-19 men's national team captured the Federation of International Lacrosse world championship Saturday, beating Canada, 10-8, in Turku, Finland. The win avenged a loss to the Canadians during pool play. The United States kept alive its streak of winning every gold medal since sanctioned U-19 international play began in 1988. Canada finished in second place for the fifth time in tournament history; the Iroquois Nationals placed third after an 18-1 win over England earlier Saturday.

After a hotly contested opening half, the Chesapeake Bayhawks took advantage of a 2-point goal by Ben Rubeor (Loyola High) just three minutes into the third quarter to propel them to an 11-7 Major League Lacrosse victory over the host Ohio Machine on Saturday night. With the win, Chesapeake became the first team to clinch a playoff spot. The teams went into halftime tied at 4, but Rubeor set the tone for a big second half for the Bayhawks (9-2), who extended their first-place lead to a full game over the Denver Outlaws.

Just as the temperatures were about to soar into the 90s, Annapolis police said a city resident reported his snowball maker was apparently stolen. Police said Wednesday that a resident of the 1800 block of Robert Small Road came to the police station Monday to say that his Sno Master machine was gone from the locked storage room of his basement last Saturday. He had placed it in there in April. There were no signs of forced entry, and family members, who have access to that room, said they had no knowledge about a theft of the equipment, according to police.

This racetrack and gaming venue is one of three venues on the East Coast to offer parlay sports betting on professional football. This destination offers racing, slots, table games, sports betting, golf and dining. Casino hours: 24 hours a day. Closed Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. Baltimore County's dental clinics can now accept Medicaid, and patients will find better equipment when they visit. The county - which has clinics at the Eastern Family Resource Center in Rosedale and the Liberty Family Resource Center in Randallstown - can take Medicaid for children and pregnant women. Officials including County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and Del. John Olszewski Jr. visited the Rosedale clinic this week to see the dental program's new digital X-ray equipment. The machines expose patients to a third of the radiation that a traditional X-ray machine does, health officials said.

Major League Lacrosse Bayhawks acquire Dailey from Cannons The Chesapake Bayhawks acquired former Stevenson and Winters Mill star Jimmy Dailey from the Boston Cannons on Wednesday in exchange for a 2013 fifth-round supplemental draft pick. In other moves, the Bayhawks released attackman Trevor Moore , a 10th-round supplemental draft pick out of Robert Morris last year, and traded goalie Johnny Rodriguez (Salisbury) to the Ohio Machine for a 2013 supplemental pick.
