Martha B. Chandler, a churchwoman who had been active in the affairs of Macedonia Baptist Church for more than 50 years, died of cancer Oct. 1 at her West Baltimore home. She was 83. Martha Dreusilla Brockington, the daughter of a minister and homemaker, was born and raised in Kingstree, S.C. She was a 1944 graduate of Tomlinson Elementary and High School in Kingstree, and two years later, married Joseph Chandler Sr. The couple moved to Baltimore in 1947. In 1955, she joined Macedonia Baptist Church.

On April 20, 2004, Mrs. OWENS, beloved wife of Larry W. Owens; devoted mother of Thelma C. Owens; loving daughter of Ruth V. Saunders. Also survived by one brother , Albert J. Saunders; two sisters, Zetharay Bullock and Dina Mc Cutcheon and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation at 2140 N. Fulton Ave. on Sunday 2:30 to 6pm. The Rev. Marvis P. May walked the streets near Lafayette Square, delivering a message of hope and encouragement throughout some of West Baltimore's toughest streets. Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church for nearly two decades, he died Saturday at Union Memorial Hospital of undetermined causes, church officials said. He was 47. "He was born to preach and, in my estimation, was one of the most gifted preachers I've ever known," said the Rev. A.C.D. Vaughn, pastor of Sharon Baptist Church.
