On March 28, 2003 LULA K. of Glen Burnie, devoted wife of the late Joshua Stewart; beloved mother of Nancy Bratcher and the late Raymond Stewart. Also survived by seven grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild. The family will receive visitors at The Singleton Funeral Home P.A. 1 Second Avenue S.W. (at Craine Highway) Glen Burnie from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Monday. The funeral ceremony will be held on Tuesday at 11 A.M. in the funeral home chapel. Interment in Glen Haven Memorial Park.

The telephone intercepts were part of a federal police operation known as Checkmate, which has led to the arrest of dozens of people in a slot-machine distribution scheme. Checkmate is just the latest in a chain of theatrically named scandals that have come to dominate Brazilian headlines and tarnish President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, sometimes called the Teflon president because of his aptitude in shaking off scandal.
