UPPER MARLBORO - A 66-year-old Prince George's County man died Saturday after he lost control of his van and it overturned, state police said yesterday. Charles Allan Mink was driving his 1992 Chevrolet van west on Route 4, east of U.S. 301, at 3:40 p.m. when he lost control, possibly as a result of a medical condition, police said. Mink, a Riverdale resident, was pronounced dead at Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly.

An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed after leaving the road and striking a light pole in Nottingham Wednesday, police said. Police identified the motorcyclist as John Adam Corvin Jr., of the 2100 block of Taylor Ave., in Parkville. Corvin had been driving east on Rossville Boulevard approaching Rolling View Avenue just after 12:30 p.m., when he lost control of his 1999 Suzuki 650 and crashed into the pole, police said. He was declared dead at the scene. Baltimore County Police Crash Team is investigating.

A Frederick County man training for an Ironman competition was killed Saturday when he lost control of his bicycle on a hill and slammed into a fieldstone fence near Burkittsville. Michael Fisher, 52, of Adamstown was pronounced dead at Mountain Church and Gapland roads. Police said he was traveling east when he lost control going around a curve on a wet road. Sgt. Ted Nee of the Frederick County Sheriff's Department said Fisher was an experienced bicyclist who regularly took part in competitions.

An 82-year-old Westminster woman was killed in a car crash in Marriottsville Thursday evening when her car veered off the road and struck a tree, Howard County police said. Doris Lee Johnson, of the 2200 block of Bluebird Dr., had a "serious medical emergency," an investigation found, and lost control of her car while driving northeast on Marriottsville Road near Driver Road just after 5 p.m. Johnson's Toyota Rav4 hit a tree and rolled onto its side, police said. She was wearing her seatbelt, and neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash, police said.

A 47-year-old man was killed in Harford County yesterday when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail, state police reported. Dean Jeffrey Herbert of Delta, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene after being thrown from his 1981 Kawasaki. Police said he was riding south on Priestford Road at Cool Spring Road in Darlington about 3:30 p.m. when he lost control and hit the rail. Herbert, who had formerly resided in Bel Air, was wearing a helmet, police said. The accident remained under investigation, police said.

A 31-year-old Lothian man died after he lost control of his car while going around a curve on Mount Zion Marlboro Road near Lothian on Tuesday evening, police said. David Keith Alton Jr. was driving south when he lost control of his Chevrolet Corsica, careened into the northbound lane and swerved to miss an oncoming tractor-trailer, police said. Alton's car hit several telephone poles and flipped, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the accident.

A Columbia man was seriously injured Thursday night when he lost control of his pickup truck in Ellicott City, Howard County police said. Kevin S. Sinnott, 48, of the 7400 block of Setting Sun Way was merging from U.S. 40 West onto U.S. 29 North just after 7 p.m. when he lost control of his Toyota Tacoma SR5 and crashed, police said. Sinnott was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was in fair condition last night.

A Frederick County woman was in critical condition yesterday after she lost control of her car and crashed into a home near Woodbine in western Howard County on Tuesday, police said. Antoinette Spadaro, 45, of the 4200 block of Deborah Court was traveling north on Woodbine Road about 9 a.m. when she crossed into the southbound lane, lost control and crashed into a house, police said. The accident is under investigation. She was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was listed in critical condition yesterday.

A Waynesboro, Pa., man was injured yesterday when he lost control of his car on an icy road and collided head-on with a vehicle north of Union Bridge.Dave W. South, 28, was in stable condition yesterday afternoon at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, where he was taken by MedEvac helicopter.State police said South was southbound on Union Bridge Road about 8 a.m. when he hit ice and lost control of his 1986 Honda Civic on a curve near Middleburg Road. His car crossed the center line and struck a 1994 Ford Tempo driven by Pamela Sue Myers, 40, of Sykesville.

A Severna Park man was seriously injured in an early-morning accident yesterday when he lost control of the truck he was driving and ran into a tree, county police said.Nicholas Breakspeare Alley, 35, of the 200 block of Cypress Creek Road was in serious but stable condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was taken after the accident. He suffered serious facial lacerations and head injuries, police said.Alley was northbound on Winchester Road near Summer Run in Arnold shortly after 2 a.m. when he lost control of the 1986 Toyota truck and ran off the right shoulder, police said.

A Baltimore County school bus driver will not be charged after a bus rolled over while taking 10 students to Pikesville Middle last month, police said. Baltimore County police completed their investigation this week in the Oct. 4 crash and determined the driver was at fault when she checked the rearview mirror and lost control of the bus. Police did not identify the driver and did not issue any citations. Police said the bus was traveling 43 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone in the 10800 block of Greenspring Ave. The driver told police she was checking the rearview mirror when the bus drifted to the right, causing the rear wheel drop off the road.

An Owings man died when his motorcycle crashed at an intersection in Howard County early Saturday morning, police said. David Roy Spriggs, 42, of Owings, Md. (Calvert County), was riding his bike south on Washington Boulevard in Elkridge and tried to take the exit for Route 100 to go east, according to police, who believe at that point he lost control and was thrown off. Paramedics treated Spriggs at the scene, and he was taken to St. Agnes Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A Belcamp teenager has died of injuries from a car crash late Monday in Aberdeen, officials said. Austin D. Remines, 17, was driving on Bush Chapel Road near the intersection of Mt. Calvary Church Road shortly after 11:15 p.m. when he rounded a curve and lost control of the car, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said. Witnesses told sheriff's deputies that Remines' 2008 Suzuki Forenza crossed into the path of an oncoming 2008 Toyota Yaris driven by 27-year-old Christopher Radcliffe of Aberdeen.

A deer darting across I-83 near Old York Road early Thursday caused a chain reaction crash that involved three tractor-trailers and halted traffic on the highway throughout the morning rush hour. All lanes were reopened by 9 a.m., according to Maryland State Police. The driver of a northbound tractor-trailer swerved to avoid the deer at about 3:30 a.m. He lost control of the semi rig, destroyed the guardrail and went through the median into the southbound lanes. There, he hit another tractor-trailer head-on.

A driver who likely lost control Tuesday on a rain-soaked road on the city's west side had to be extricated from his car, fire officials said. Baltimore City fire and EMS units responded at 7:35 a.m. to the one-car accident in the 5400 hundred block of Frederick Avenue in the Westgate neighborhood. The unidentified man, who was conscious and alert, was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that rescuers said were not life-threatening. The driver, who was traveling in the eastbound lane, lost control of the car and struck a utility pole.

A Westminster man was killed Saturday by a light pole that fell on him on the side of Route 50 in Queen Anne's County after he lost control of his motorcycle on the roadway and it struck the pole, Maryland State Police said. Police believe Philip Jeffrey Merson, 59, was traveling in the left lane of the eastbound roadway shortly after 2:30 p.m. when he lost control of his red and black 2009 Honda motorcycle and swerved to the right, across three lanes and onto the exit ramp for Nesbit Road.

A 29-year-old Pocomoke City man was killed late Saturday when he lost control of his motorcycle in Wicomico County, police said. Jason Alan Quarles was traveling south on the Route 13 bypass about 10:45 p.m., preparing to merge onto Route 13 north of Stockyard Road, according to officials from the Salisbury barracks of the Maryland State Police. As he was approaching a curve, Quarles lost control of his 2005 Yamaha motorcycle, which fell onto the road, sending him about 100 feet into a guardrail.

State police identified yesterday the man killed Sunday after losing control of his motorcycle on Interstate 83 in Baltimore County as Derrand Anthony Bradford, 29, of the 3700 block of Hillsdale Road in Forest Park. Police said Bradford was driving a 2001 Honda motorcycle north on I-83 near Mount Washington about 5:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve and struck a guardrail. Bradford, who was thrown from the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

A 17-year-old woman was killed in a single-car accident Wednesday morning after she apparently lost control of her vehicle on a wet road and struck a vacant house in Pasadena. The victim was identified by the Anne Arundel County Police Department as Kala Marie Austin, of the 3600 block of Robin Air Court in Pasadena. According to police, officers from the department's Eastern District responded at 7:37 a.m. to a report of an accident near Mountain Road and Fairwood Drive in Pasadena.

Anne Arundel County police identified Tuesday a man who died after he was involved in a single-vehicle car crash in Odenton on Saturday. Brendan James Truffer, 25, of the 100 block of Locust Drive in Catonsville, died Monday after his car struck a tree off Patuxent Road north of Conway Road, police said. According to police, officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash about 4:37 a.m. Saturday.Their investigation indicated that the driver was heading north on Patuxent Road when his 2003 Toyota Solara veered onto the shoulder.
