On December, 20, 2008 Command Sgt. Major HARRY A. "Hap" (Ret.) of Owings Mills, devoted husband of Lorna E. Garner (nee Ayre) his wife of 58 years, father of Steven F. Garner, Lorna M. Cerniglia and husband Vincent J. and CW2 Patricia A. Garner (Ret.), sister; Hilda Homerighausen, grandchildren; Angela Gottesfeld and husband Dave, Anthony and Dominic Cerniglia and Nicholas Framarini. He was predeceased by four brothers and one sister. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday December, 29, 2008 at 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glyndon.

Fuzzy magazine illustrations of nesting birds and Alaskan sled dogs might not seem like promising subjects for ambitious art, but Lorna Bieber's mural-scale black-and-white photographs at C. Grimaldis Gallery endow these banal images with a mysterious aura of arrested meaning. Bieber, who started her career as a painter, is interested in a classic minimalist strategy: How much can you take out of a picture and still have an image that signifies something? In a painting, the ultimate expression of minimalism is an all-white or all-black canvas (or any other monochrome hue, for that matter)

Early in her teaching career, Lorna Frendak took on a daunting task that was well beyond her scope of responsibility in the classroom: helping an 18-year-old girl who had become deaf and blind. The girl was a former student of Frendak's, and during her senior year in high school, she was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder of the nervous system that causes tumors to form on the nerves. A subsequent surgery left the girl deaf and blind, and unable to function on her own. The girl told Frendak she wanted to live like a normal teenager.
