ALso survived by seven nieces and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday June 4 at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 5401 Loch Raven Blvd.

Early in her teaching career, Lorna Frendak took on a daunting task that was well beyond her scope of responsibility in the classroom: helping an 18-year-old girl who had become deaf and blind. The girl was a former student of Frendak's, and during her senior year in high school, she was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder of the nervous system that causes tumors to form on the nerves. A subsequent surgery left the girl deaf and blind, and unable to function on her own. The girl told Frendak she wanted to live like a normal teenager.
