So much for the orderly transfer of power. Late yesterday afternoon, Lorena Ochoa worked her way through the crowd that was cheering her and chanting her name as she headed off Bulle Rock's 18th green and to the scorer's trailer. About 15 minutes later, Annika Sorenstam made the same trek, except the crowds were cheering even louder. The cheers were not for the victor. The victor was still playing, heading back to the 18th tee for the playoff to decide the McDonald's LPGA Championship.

While Tiger Woods' quest for a Grand Slam was nipped in the bud by South African Trevor Immelman at the Masters, a much more quiet supremacy continued elsewhere in the golf world. Lorena Ochoa, the 26-year-old Mexican superstar, was lapping the field at the Corona Championship in Morelia, Mexico. She won the tournament at 25-under-par - 11 strokes better than the second-place finisher. It also qualified her for the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame, although she can't be inducted until she has been on the tour for 10 years - which for her would happen in 2012.

MANASSAS, Va. -- The radio gag show went on the air outside the courthouse before dawn, and with the sunrise came peddlers of T-shirts and boxer shorts, then reporters and video cameramen by the score. The story began unfolding once more, and all the words and pictures went out from 18 satellite trucks in the parking lot to the nation and the world:Lorena L. Ninety seconds after Anopheles gambiae touches down on naked flesh, the mosquito's bloody deed is done: Her double-barreled proboscis has tapped a tiny vessel, siphoning liquid up one tube while squirting specially-formulated saliva down the other to stop clots. By the time she lumbers off, three times her weight in blood fills her gut. If the mosquito is careful - and you're lucky - you'll barely know she was there. But millions of people who get bitten aren't so fortunate, because Anopheles mosquitoes can also harbor a deadly stowaway, the malaria parasite.

The torch was passed quietly earlier this year, not surprising given the reserved personalities of the two players involved. It had been long anticipated, considering how Lorena Ochoa had already replaced Annika Sorenstam on top of the LPGA money list at the end of last season. Yet it still takes a little getting used to that Sorenstam, after a five-year reign as the game's dominant female golfer and maybe the best in LPGA history, is no longer ruling her sport as the No. 1-ranked player in the world.

For Virginia Circuit Judge LeRoy F. Millette Jr., the unblinking attention of the nation's media and legions of curious onlookers that will accompany the first trial in last fall's sniper shootings are nothing new. A decade ago, just a month into his current job, Millette presided over half of the infamous domestic assault case involving Lorena and John Wayne Bobbitt. The Bobbitt case offered a firsthand lesson in how extraordinary public interest can transform the often little-noticed daily work of the bench, and Millette took careful note.

Chasing Papi, a girl-power comedy with a Latin beat, is an unfunny if generally good-natured ordeal. Billed as the "first major studio comedy to reflect the Hispanic cultural experience in America," the film looks at three Latina characters. Cici, a cocktail waitress from Miami, is a fun-loving hottie who favors big hair and loose, cleavage-revealing outfits. The more reserved Lorena, a Chicago attorney, most often wears conservative suits accessorized with conservative ties. Patricia, an heiress, lives in New York where she pampers her dog Fifi, wears nothing but haute couture and whines.
