Loren Generi, Navy Freshman, Bayport, N.Y., attacker Generi scored a career-high seven goals last Friday to help Navy clinch the Patriot League regular-season title with a 19-6 win over second-place American. The seven goals - which came on just nine shots - tied the school's single-game scoring record for freshmen and were one shy of Danielle Vivonetto's single-game school mark. Generi scored five straight goals during a 15-1 run and added eight draw controls and three ground balls.

Friday night was senior night for the Navy women's lacrosse team. Leave it to freshman Loren Generi to steal the show. All Generi did was score seven goals - one short of the school record - to lead the Mids (14-2, 5-0) to a 19-6 win against American (7-7, 3-3) in a Patriot League match at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. Carlo Ponti, the Italian producer of films such as La Strada, Doctor Zhivago and Blowup and the longtime husband of actress Sophia Loren, whom he discovered as a teenager, has died. He was 94. Mr. Ponti, who had been hospitalized for about 10 days with pulmonary complications, died Tuesday at a hospital in Geneva, Switzerland, his family said in a statement yesterday. Mr. Ponti was a producer on more than 140 movies, including La Strada, Jean-Luc Godard's Contempt and Michelangelo Antonioni's Blowup, Zabriskie Point and The Passenger.
