Well before the first performance last week of Lola Pierson's latest work, "Office Ladies," it was advertised as a "hit play. " That's the sort of cheekiness you might expect from a young, DIY-type theater company that calls itself the Acme Corporation, inspired by all the not-so-safe-or-reliable products packed in boxes stamped "Acme" that appear in classic Looney Tunes cartoons. "We just know the play's going to be a hit," said Stephen Nunns, one of the forces behind the company, which has ties to Towson University, where he teaches and directs the MFA program in theater arts.

Schneider Jr., Melvin Dean Schneider, Marvin Daniel Schneider and Mervin Deacon Schneider and sister of Laura Carver and Edna Mae Milway. Also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandson. Services will be held Wednesday, April 9 at 1 P.M. at Kurtz Funeral Home, P.A. Jarretsville, MD. Interment in Gardens of Faith Cemetery. On February 1, 2006 LOLA (NEE MULLER) SZYMANSKI beloved wife of the late Joseph W. Szymanski and devoted mother of Joseph J. Szymanski of Rock Hall, MD, Frank and Katy Szymanski of Towson, MD, Tom and Debbie Szymanski of Marriottsville, MD; loving grandmother of Michelle Roan, Donna Armiger, Melody, Frank, Tom, Michael, David and Erin Szymanski; dear sister of Frances Muller and Pearl Kalinowski. Also survived by nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Also predeceased by four sisters and one brother.

LOLA ODESSA WHEAT, 89, of Philadelphia, formerly of Baltimore. The burial will now take place in Tohickon Union Cemetery, Perkasie, PA.

Lola M. Baxter, a retired telephone operator and receptionist who greeted guests at the WMAR television studios, died of complications from a broken hip Aug. 26 at Gilchrist Hospice Care of Howard County. She was 101 and had lived in Towson. Born Lola Marie Annen in Baltimore, she lived in the 2900 block of Greenmount Ave. in Waverly and could recall how the International League Orioles played their games immediately behind her family's home at old Oriole Park. She told her children that she watched Babe Ruth play baseball there.

Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre capped its season with Barry Manilow's "Copacabana," a fast-paced show-within-a-show that is light on plot and heavy on music. It was originally a television special in 1985, and then a stage production in 1991. It was spawned from the lyrics of Manilow's 1978 hit single, and proved an ideal choice to complete ASGT's 2009 season. Smartly directed by Jerry Vess, "Copacabana" immediately draws the audience into the story of 1970s songwriter Stephen, who is trying out song ideas in his head as he prepares to celebrate his sixth wedding anniversary with his wife, Samantha.
