Maryland middleweight Alphonso Daniels proved his victory over Bernice Barber three years ago was no fluke by dominating their eight-round rematch last night before a crowd of 1,200 at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie. The left-handed Daniels (19-4) boxed masterfully, frustrating his stalking rival with quick combinations and elusive footwork.Barber (14-9-2), a Virginia native fighting out of Tampa, Fla., never got untracked and was unable to put punches together. A reformed kick boxer, Barber had scored an impressive knockout victory over former middleweight champion Glenwood Brown in his previous appearance here in February.

Why did Morgan State University's radio station put an abrupt end to Tyrone Powers' show this past Tuesday night? It all depends on whom you believe, and they're telling different stories. Powers says he was forced off the air in a conspiracy involving Kweisi Mfume, Gov. Martin O'Malley and Morgan's president, Earl Richardson. Mfume flatly denies that he had anything to do with it. An O'Malley spokesman said the newly inaugurated governor wasn't even sure who Powers is and that O'Malley has more pressing business to tackle than hassling an obscure radio host.
