As of 9 a.m. Friday, traffic was slow on the outer loop of I-695 near Loch Raven Boulevard, due to an accident. Accidents were slowing traffic on St. Paul Street near Charles Street in Baltimore City, Monroe Street near Washington Boulevard in Baltimore City, Riva Road near Route 655 in Anne Arundel County, Route 648 near Waterford Road in Anne Arundel County, and on Route 26 near Unionville Road near Franklinville. Traffic was slow on I-895 near the Steel Bridge, due to construction activity.

The Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System is expanding its Loch Raven complex with a long-term care center and an exercise and robotics center that will allow research into rehabilitation for wounded and aging veterans. The $13 million project is scheduled to open later this year on the nearly 15-acre campus at the intersection of Loch Raven Boulevard and the Alameda in the Original Northwood neighborhood of Baltimore. "Where we have room to grow, we must continue to grow so we can provide our veterans with the best care," said Nancy Quailey, associate director of operations for the health care system.

Stoneleigh Elementary School and Loch Raven High School have been selected for the next round of speed camera installations, Baltimore County Police announced Wednesday. Police said construction of the camera pads at each school has begun, and residents will be notified when the cameras are activated. Southwest Academy, Patapsco High School and Owings Mills Elementary were also announced among the next batch of schools to receive speed cameras. The addition of those five schools brings the total number to 27 speed cameras across the county.

Baltimore County Police say they arrested a man on the Fourth of Jjuly in connection with the theft of six air conditioners from apartments in Loch Raven Villlage. The incident occurred in the 1700 block of Aberdeen Road, at about 4:37 a.m. July 4, according to police reports.. Six air conditioning units were stolen from Loch Raven Village Apartments, and all were later recovered. Police said Derrick Navon Edmondson, 32 of the 1700 block of Edgewood Road, was arrested and charged with second degree burglary.

The following is the 2012 schedule of Independence Day fireworks displays around Baltimore County that have been approved by the Baltimore County Fire Marshal's Office. The attached map shows these displays, as well as the display at the Inner Harbor on July 4. The Fire Marshal's Office notes that the use of backyard fireworks is illegal; some ground-based and hand-held sparklers are legal in certain counties, including Baltimore County. Detailed information about the laws regulating fireworks is available online.

Elinor Isabel "Judy" Agnew, who as the wife of former Baltimore County Executive, Maryland Gov. and Vice President Spiro T. Agnew preferred quiet domesticity to that of the political limelight, died June 20 in Rancho Mirage, Calif. She was 91. "She passed away very peacefully with all of her children at her side," a daughter, Susan Sagle of Palm Springs, Calif., said Thursday. "She died of natural causes and had been in failing health since 2005. " "Judy was truly a lady and a very outstanding second lady.

Joshua A. Barbati, a retired Baltimore County public school educator and longtime Loch Raven resident, died May 11 of melanoma at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C. He was 79. The son of Italian immigrants, Mr. Barbati was born in Bristol, Conn., and raised in Meriden, Conn., and New Haven, where he graduated in 1953 from James Hillhouse High School. He was a 1960 graduate of Central Connecticut State College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in technology education.

Many folks may be traveling on this long Memorial Day holiday weekend, but if you're going to be around, here are two activities not to miss on Saturday. The first one's a snap - you don't even have to leave the house, or get out of your PJs. At 9 a.m Saturday (May 26), local cable, broadcast and satellite TV stations will feature a half-hour documentary about the Healthy Harbor campaign to make Baltimore's harbor swimmable and fishable by the end of the decade.  The algae bloom and fish kills this week are furnishing a pungent reminder of why this campaign was launched.

Patterson Mill fell one win short of a second straight trip to a state baseball final, losing 6-4 to Patuxent in the Class 2A semifinal Thursday at Shipley Field in College Park. The Huskies (19-5), who lost to St.Michaels, 4-0, in last season's championship game, led 4-1 before the Panthers rallied for four runs in the fifth. Patuxent had three doubles, a single and a pair of walks in the inning. In Saturday's 2A title game at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Patuxent will play Williamsport, which beat Loch Raven, 3-0, at 4 p.m. Boys lacrosse Carroll County 7, Baltimore County 4: Taylor Schmitz (South Carroll)

Major Livingstone (Northwestern) scored the game-winner with two minutes left in the second overtime to lift the West over the East, 13-12, in the Baltimore City All-Star lacrosse game Wednesday at Mervo. William Gatling (Northwestern) scored his fourth goal with 24seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 12 and force overtime. Livingstone also finished with four goals. The West trailed 6-3 at the half. Baseball Class 2A state semifinals: Both games, Willamsport (13-9)
