Fans of liturgical dance -- a combination of jazz, modern, African and tap dance set to gospel or spiritual music -- will have something to celebrate when New York's Harlem Tabernacle Dance Ministry takes to the stage on Saturday at the Jim Rouse Theatre for the Performing Arts in Columbia.The dance recital will benefit the Affordable Housing Alliance Inc. Home Ownership Grant Fund, a Howard County-based nonprofit that provides grants to first-time and disadvantaged home-buyers throughout the state.

Binnie Ritchie Holum, a dancer, choreographer, playwright and actress who had been a co-founder of the Baltimore Women's Theatre Project , died Sept. 21 at her parents' home near Saranac Lake, N.Y., of a gioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor. She was 64. "Her talent was just endless and she had more energy than three people combined," said Harvey M. Doster, her collaborator, who is director of the International Baccalaureate Theater Program at St. Timothy's School in Stevenson.

Christmas cantata "The Life-Light Christmas" will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at Asbury Town Neck United Methodist Church, 429 Asbury Drive in Severna Park. Worship services, workshop The Rev. James Bishop and members of Asbury Town Neck United Methodist Church present "Wednesday Night Live," a worship experience and empowerment workshop beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the church, 429 Asbury Drive in Severna Park. The event consists of a half-hour worship service with the ATN Voices Praise Team, combined choir, liturgical dance, prayer and a free-will offering. The hourlong workshop will be led by the Rev. Sheryl Menendez.

Mother's Day service Asbury Town Neck United Methodist Church, 429 Asbury Drive in Severna Park, will host a special worship service honoring mothers at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 13. Included in the service will be the Voices Praise Team, the Johnson Male Chorus and a liturgical dance tribute. The Rev. James A. Regaining the ability to support a minister on its own is a dual cause for celebration at the Union Street United Methodist Church.OnSunday, the 85-member congregation welcomed the Rev. Joan Carter as its full-time minister, rejoicing that they no longer need to share her with the Fairview and Strawbridge United Methodist churches in NewWindsor.But the service -- filled with singing, music and liturgical dance -- also celebrated their being the only black United Methodist congregation in Carroll to be recognized as a station, or self-sufficientchurch.

'Trunk or Treat' Children up to the fourth grade are invited to a Halloween event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Galilee Lutheran Church, 4652 Mountain Road in Pasadena.
