A 5-year-old Westminster girl injured Thursday in a 12-foot fall from a second-story window at her home was listed in stable condition yesterday at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center.Donna Glowacki, daughter of John and Trudy Glowacki, of the 800 block of Johahn Drive in The Greens, sustained head injuries when she fell onto a concrete front stoop.The girl was flown to Johns Hopkins by state police MedEvac helicopter.

A 2-year-old Harford County girl was listed in stable condition last night after falling 20 feet from the balcony of her townhouse onto some concrete, said state police. Cpl. Daniel Fairburn said the child, whose name was not released, climbed onto a bicycle kept near the railing of a balcony at her home in the 1700 block of Fountain Rock Way in Edgewood. The girl's mother rushed to prevent her from falling, but the girl fell and landed on her head about 3:20 p.m. before the mother could reached her, he said.

A five-year-old girl who happened to be in a neighborhood store on East Monument Street when a shooting occurred was hit in the leg by a bullet last night.Police declined to name the child, but said she was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital and listed in stable condition.Police said the incident began shortly before 5 p.m. with two men arguing on the sidewalk outside Arundel's store at 2321 E. Monument St. When one of them pulled out a handgun, the other fled into the small store.The gunman followed, firing at least four shots, police said.

An Anne Arundel County police officer who jumped into a burning car early Sunday to rescue a 49-year-old Baltimore man said yesterday that he was just doing his job. "I just knew I had to get the people out before the car blew up," said Officer Lester Brumfield. "I wasn't thinking, just doing what they taught us. I was scared later." The 1988 BMW was headed north on Route 295 about one mile south of Route 100 when it veered off the highway for no apparent reason, said traffic investigators.

A Reisterstown couple was shot and wounded early yesterday after a man opened fire on them in the middle of their neighborhood street. Sylvia Brasher, 29, of the 12000 block of Bonfire Drive, and Kenneth Wiley, identified by police as Brasher's 24-year-old boyfriend, were taken to separate hospitals after a gunman shot them during a dispute about 5 a.m. Police were searching for the suspect yesterday. The motive for the attack was unknown. At least one town home and several automobiles were hit when the gunman sprayed the street with gunfire.

Two children and two women were in stable condition last night after a three-car accident in Glenelg, Howard County police said yesterday. Traffic near the accident site on Route 32 at Pfefferkorn Road was backed up for hours as investigators tried to determine what happened in the 2:40 p.m. crash. According to police, a Chevrolet Suburban driven by Terri Einsidler, 40, of West Friendship, was making a left turn from northbound Route 32 onto Pfefferkorn Road when a Honda Accord, driven by Barbara Louise Fitzgerald, 77, of Elkridge, struck the Suburban from behind.

A fight between cellmates turned into a brawl yesterday afternoon at Baltimore County's Woodlawn Precinct. Seven police officers and one of the prisoners were injured, authorities said.Police said they found one inmate with another in a choke hold and repeatedly used pepper spray in the struggle to separate the men. The officers were treated for cuts and bruises at Sinai Hospital.The injured prisoner, Irren Titus Munjodzi, 22, address unknown, was being held on charges of attempted murder and first-degree assault for allegedly trying to run down an officer with a car Friday night.

Three men attacked a fellow inmate at the Maryland House of Correction Annex in Jessup yesterday, stabbing him eight times and puncturing his lung, prison officials said.The 25-year-old victim and 47 other inmates were outside a housing unit about 1: 50 p.m. during a recreation period when three men accosted the victim. Officers recovered a homemade knife.The inmate, who is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, was taken by MedEvac helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he is listed in stable condition, said Dave Towers, a spokesman for the state Division of Correction.

A Crisfield police officer has been placed on administrative leave while state police investigate a shooting of a motorist in the Somerset County town Saturday night.Crisfield Police Chief Clarence Bell said the shooting occurred after Officer Brent Conner acted to stop a car with a malfunctioning headlight at 9:30 p.m.The car did not stop at first, the chief reported. When it did, it backed into the cruiser driven by Officer Conner, the chief said.The car's driver, Mack Merrill, 20, allegedly ran into a wooded area between two houses where the officer chased him before the shooting occurred, police said.

A serious accident in east Columbia's Owen Brown village stalled rush-hour traffic for an hour yesterday morning, Howard County police said.Police said two cars collided about 7: 22 a.m. at Cradlerock Way and Smooth Path.A 1992 Chevrolet Corsica, driven by Thomas Welsh of the 9500 block of Angelina Circle, was attempting to make a left turn from Cradlerock Way onto Smooth Path when it was struck by a 1987 Honda Civic traveling on Cradlerock Way, a police report said.Police said the driver of the Honda, Cara Baruth of the 6300 block of Sunset Light, was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was listed in stable condition.

Held in lieu of $10,000 bond and charged as an accessory after the fact on suspicion of hiding the weapon is Larry Lee Bullock, 19, of the 100 block of Compass Road in Middle River.

3/8 TC Thirty-two bystanders and firefighters were overcome by noxious fumes -- possibly cyanide gas -- yesterday as a four-alarm fire destroyed a Manchester, Carroll County, barn that had been converted into apartments.About 100 firefighters fought the blaze for eight hours.The injured were taken to five area hospitals, including one in Hanover, Pa. None of the apartment resident were hurt.Two people were admitted to the intensive care unit at Baltimore's Sinai Hospital, where one was listed in criticalcondition and the other in serious condition, said Paul Umanski, a hospital spokesman.
