A Howard County bicyclist was struck by a car about 6 p.m. Saturday at U.S. 1 and Route 175, county police say. Alvero Rodrigo Pimetel-Herrer, 28, of the 7700 block of Washington Blvd. in Elkridge was listed in critical condition yesterday afternoon at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was taken after the accident. Investigators said Pimetel-Herrer was riding his blue Gary Fisher Marlin bicycle south on U.S. 1 and failed to yield to traffic as he crossed Route 175 at a crosswalk.

A man pulled from a stream in Randallstown Friday afternoon is listed in critical condition, Baltimore County officials said. A fire department spokesman said crews were called at 1:27 p.m. to a stream near the 9600 block of Southall Road for reports of a drowning. A wounded man was found early yesterday in a pool of blood outside the Robin Wood public housing project. City police weren't sure whether he was shot, stabbed or beaten. The man, who was not immediately identified by police, was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was listed in critical condition, said Officer Hal Dalton of the Annapolis police. The man, believed to be 35 and 40 years old, had a severe wound on the left side of his face. Detectives were trying to determine what happened to the man before he was found about 1 a.m. in a grassy area in front of townhouses in the 1300 block of Tyler Ave. A resident was trying to lift the unconscious man from the mud when police and paramedics arrived, said Detective Kevin Lloyd.

Police on Saturday updated the status of an 18-year-old man and a 27-year-old man shot in separate incidents in the Sandtown-Winchester and Waverly neighborhoods Friday afternoon. As of late Saturday, police said both victims were listed in critical, but stable condition. Police said in the first incident, which happened just after 3:30 p.m., the 18-year-old victim was shot multiple times in the torso in the 1600 block of Mosher St., police said. He was taken to the hospital.

A 23-year-old Ellicott City man was killed and two other people were seriously injured after an early-morning accident yesterday in West Friendship, Howard County police said.Vijay Jose of the 9500 block of Michaels Way was declared dead at the scene of the crash on Route 32 just north of Rosemary Lane at 4: 45 a.m., police said.Police said Jose was driving a Nissan Sentra that crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Chevrolet Lumina driven by Sandra Lee Foster, 58, of the 2200 block of Dennings Road in New Windsor.

A 2-year-old boy fell out a second-floor window of his East Baltimore home last night and was listed in critical condition today at Johns Hopkins Hospital.Police said Jerome Porter, of the 1200 block of N. Caroline St., was being watched by his 10-year-old sister shortly before 11 p.m. and was reportedly alone in a room when he climbed onto a couch next to a window.The baby, police said, was crawling on the couch when he fell out the open window and landed on the pavement.Police said the baby was rushed by ambulance to the hospital's pediatric intensive care unit, where he was listed today in critical condition.

A 73-year-old retired Baltimore City police officer was shot late last night outside his home during an apparent robbery attempt.Oliver T. Murdock was getting out of his car in the 2500 block of Riggs Ave. in West Baltimore about 9: 50 p.m. when he was confronted by two males, police said. During a scuffle with the assailants, the retired officer was shot once in the chest.The two men fled in a black pickup truck. Neighbors called police, who rushed the victim to Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

An 8-year-old Middle River boy was critically injured last night when he tried to cross Eastern Boulevard in rush hour traffic and was struck by a van.James Dietz of the first block of Byway South was listed in critical condition at Johns Hopkins Children's Center.The accident occurred at 5: 12 p.m. in the 1700 block of Eastern Blvd. As traffic stopped in the slow lane, police said, the child walked into the fast lane and was hit by a van driven by Warren Fluck, 33, of the 3100 block of Sollers Point Road in Dundalk.

An unidentified man who was shot in Severn yesterday afternoon was listed in critical condition last night at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Anne Arundel County police said. Police responding to a 911 call about a shooting found the man, who is in his 20s, lying in the street in the 1900 block of Arwell Court about 4:50 p.m., said Officer Mark Shawkey, a police spokesman. The man had been shot several times, Shawkey said. Shawkey said police knew of no motive and had not identified any suspects.

One man was killed and another critically wounded about 2:20 p.m. yesterday in an apparent drive-by shooting in West Baltimore. Police were searching for a gold-colored car that one witness saw pull up to a corner.Police said the two men -- both in their 20s -- were at Presbury Street and Warwick Avenue when shots were fired from the car.One man, shot twice in the back, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man, shot in the back, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical condition yesterday.

Baltimore police officers found a woman lying in a Baltimore side street shortly after sunset Friday. She had been shot in the head. The woman, whom police have not yet identified, is listed in critical condition and is being treated at a nearby hospital. Officers found the woman lying in the 300 block of E. 26 t h St. about 7:05 p.m., according to Sgt. Anthony Smith, a spokesman for the Baltimore City Police Department. Witnesses reported seeing a black man wearing a red and black jacket with a white hat running south on Guilford Avenue after the shooting.

Anne Arundel County police officers are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a 64-year-old bicyclist in Hanover on Sunday morning, sending him to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department and Shock Trauma Center spokesperson Cindy Rivers, the bicyclist, Stephen Eugene Shenefiel of the 1500 block of Conifer Ridge Lane in Prescott, Arizona, was listed in critical but stable condition as of Sunday night. Officers responded at 7:36 a.m. Sunday to the report of a bicyclist who was struck on Ridge Road near Furnace Avenue.

Baltimore County police said a shooting and stabbing that took place in Dundalk on Sunday morning appear to have occurred during an attempted home invasion. Police said Sunday night that the victims, identified as boyfriend and girlfriend, are a 30-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound and a 28-year-old woman who was stabbed. Both were taken to area hospitals, and the man was last listed in critical condition, police said. Police said the victims were injured during a confrontation with two black males, who forced in the rear door of the home, located in the 700 block of Aldworth Road.

Baltimore police are investigating four homicides and a nonfatal shooting that occurred Sunday during a violent weekend that also left a 36-year-old woman in critical condition after her car was shot at as she sat at a stoplight. Police said they believe at least two of the incidents are connected and that they have "persons of interest" in at least three of the cases. "There's no question it was a violent weekend," said spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. "We're looking at the motives and connections, but we have to pause and look at the greater picture.

A 19-year-old Baltimore man was shot in the 3700 block of Saint Victor Street just before midnight Friday, police said. Officers responding to a report of a shooting on Saint Victor Street found a 19-year-old male lying on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, police said. Anne Arundel County Police Department received a call at 5:52 p.m. Sunday evening that a man had been struck by lightning at Fort Smallwood Park. A man who was struck by lightning while fishing in Anne Arundel County remains hospitalized in critical condition, while officials with the National Weather Service investigate whether Sunday's strong storms produced a tornado in Harford County. Authorities identified the injured man as Elmer Coreas, 29, of Glen Burnie. He had been fishing off a pier at Fort Smallwood Park when he was struck about 5:40 p.m. Sunday.

A Frederick County woman was in critical condition yesterday after she lost control of her car and crashed into a home near Woodbine in western Howard County on Tuesday, police said. Antoinette Spadaro, 45, of the 4200 block of Deborah Court was traveling north on Woodbine Road about 9 a.m. when she crossed into the southbound lane, lost control and crashed into a house, police said. The accident is under investigation. She was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was listed in critical condition yesterday.

ABERDEEN -- A 27-year-old night clerk at the Econo Lodge Motel on Route 22 near Interstate 95 was today listed in critical condition after being shot late last night during a robbery, said a city police spokesman.Maj. Harry Gruber said Glenda Darlene Wyatt, a resident of Joppa, was behind the desk shortly before midnight when a man dressed in dark clothing and armed with a 9 mm handgun entered the lobby and announced a holdup.While Ms. Wyatt reached for the money, the gunman ordered two other female employees onto the floor after firing two warning shots into the ceiling.

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after he told police he beat his 66-year-old grandmother unconscious with a hammer when he became angry while getting ready for school. The teen was being held at Central Booking, but was not identified by police because he had not been formally charged as of late Thursday. Police said boy called 911 after the assault at about 8:30 a.m., and officers responded to the home in the 800 block of E. 34th St. in the Waverly community, where they found the grandmother unresponsive in her bed, said Detective Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman.

Five people traveling in a Crown Victoria were taken to local hospitals after their car struck a guard rail in Dayton on Friday afternoon, Howard County police said. The crash occurred at 1:47 p.m. when the driver of the 2002 Ford Crown Victoria, John Henry Burnham III, drove off the right edge of Route 32. The car went airborne, landing next to the road, and caused two people to be thrown. Burnham, 40, of Fort Meade was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, along with Heather Young, 18, and Brittany Nichole Young, 19, both of Inwood, W. Va., and Brittany Maria Breeden, 17. Heather Young is listed in critical condition, while Brittany Young, Breeden and Burnham suffered less serious injuries.
