Catonsville Community College's national tournament-bound softball team has a definite Howard County flavor.Glenelg graduates Lisa Martin and Jodi Kielman, Hammond's Amy Nestor, Howard's Sharon Ford, Oakland Mills's Kristen Ostlie and Mount Hebron's Megan Yendall helped boost the Cardinals to a 22-11 record and the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XX championship.The Cardinals will join the 23 other regional winners Thursday for the four-day double-elimination national championship tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.In the third game of the best-of-three regional championship series Monday, the Cardinals defeated Anne Arundel Community College, 6-4, for the title.

Tinah Houck (Westminster) scored eight goals in leading the College of Notre Dame past Guilford College, 22-9, in women's lacrosse in Greensboro, N.C., yesterday. The Gators (1-1) outscored the Quakers 11-3 in the second half to break open the game.Carly Goertz added seven goals for the College of Notre Dame. Erin McNaught and Casey Lord each scored three goals for the Quakers (0-2).* Dickinson 16, Goucher 11: Lisa Martin had four goals to lead host Dickinson over Goucher in the season opener for both schools.

Player of the Year Colleen Matthes, Institute of Notre Dame The sophomore pitcher led the No. 5 Indians to a second straight runner-up finish in the tough and balanced Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference. Matthes went 16-8 for the season, recording 168 strikeouts in 161 innings and six shutouts. She had one perfect game, and also a no-hitter. She hit .397 with 19 RBIs. Coach of the Year Lisa Martin, Digital Harbor The first-year coach got the most out of a talented, young group to lead the Rams to a 15-0 regular season and the Baltimore City league title.
