Beloved husband of the late Helen (nee Rydzewski) Lipinski; devoted father of Richard Lipinski and Mark Lipinski; loving grandfather of Amy and Nicole Lipinski. Friends may call at the CVACH/ROSEDALE FUNERAL HOME, 1211 Chesaco Avenue on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday 12 noon, Church of the Annunciation.

Aaron Craft is a senior guard for Ohio State, considered one of top perimeter defenders in college basketball. Conner Lipinski, meanwhile, is a sophomore guard from Gambrills who played just two minutes in the first eight games this season as a preferred walk-on for Maryland. The two appear to have little in common — no one would mistake their play if they faced off in a game. But Lipinski, a former standout at Annapolis Area Christian School, was trying his best Craft imitation recently during practices at Comcast Center in College Park.

William A. Lipinski, vice president and co-owner of a family construction company, died Saturday of complications from a brain tumor at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. The longtime Fallston resident was 64. Born in Teaneck, N.J., and raised in Parkville, he was a 1958 graduate of Calvert Hall College High School, where he played football. He earned an associate's degree in accounting from the old Eastern College of Commerce and Law in Baltimore. Mr. Lipinski served three years in the Army in the early 1960s and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

Melvin Lipinski, a World War II veteran and former Baltimore police officer, died of complications from Parkinson's disease Monday at his Rosedale home. He was 86. Born in Baltimore and raised on Gough Street, he attended St. Patrick's Parochial School and attended Patterson Park High School before working at Lamm Brothers, a North Exeter Street clothing manufacturer. After his induction into the Army in 1943, Mr. Lipinski was trained as a barber at Camp Ellis, Ill. He participated in the liberation of the Southern Philippines, served in New Guinea and received several ribbons.

So why bother, if you don't own the place? Because renter's insurance is about your possessions, not the walls around them. It's a lot cheaper than car insurance, if you're smarting over that bill. Premiums generally run between $200 and $250 a year, which works out to a monthly charge of $17 to $21, said Timothy M. Lipinski, a risk portfolio manager at Kirby Insurance Agency Inc., a brokerage headquartered in Baltimore.

Paul Salopek, a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning foreign correspondent for the Chicago Tribune, was charged with espionage and two other criminal counts in a Sudanese court yesterday, three weeks after he was detained by pro-government forces in the province of Darfur. Salopek, 44, who was on a freelance assignment for National Geographic magazine, was arrested with two Chadian citizens, his interpreter and driver. If convicted, they could be imprisoned for years. Chicago Tribune editor Ann Marie Lipinski called Salopek "one of the most accomplished and admired journalists of our time.
