The New York Yankees had lost four straight to the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park and the team bus was quiet as the players, showered and dressed, waited for manager Yogi Berra to climb aboard.Meanwhile, Phil Linz, the perennially happy-go-lucky infielder, began to play his self-taught version of "Mary Had A Little Lamb" on a harmonica he had bought that afternoon while walking the aisles of a Neiman Marcus department store.

James G. Linz, a financial planner who had administered a medical practice, died of cancer Friday at his Timonium home. He was 54. Born in Baltimore and raised in Parkville, he was a 1971 graduate of Calvert Hall College High School. He earned an accounting degree at Loyola College, where he also received a master's degree. While an undergraduate, he played soccer and as a freshman was a member of the school's 1971 championship team. He worked in grants and contracts at the University of Maryland in downtown Baltimore and later went on to be chief executive officer at a physicians practice based at its Shock Trauma Center.

On August 22, 2004, CATHERINE G., beloved mother of Michael and Stacy Bray; beloved daughter of George W., Sr., and the late Mildred W. Linz; sister of George W., Jr. and Joseph Linz, Veronica A. Kessler, Ruth M. Schoonmaker, Butch Maith, and the late David Linz. Also survived by other relatives and friends.
