JACK passed away to be with the Lord on May 12, 2005. He suffered from congestive heart failure. Devoted husband to Miriam Friskey Eaton; loving Dad of Miriam and Jeff Chalk, Bill and Cathy Rhea, Michele and Steve Biemer; loving Pop Pop of Jeffrey, Joel, Andy, Alex, Aaron and August. Memorial Service to be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Jerusalem Rd, Kingsville MD. on Saturday June 18 at 11:30 A.M. Light lunch following in Parish Hall. Don't look for the Roland Park Bakery & Deli in Roland Park. The combination bakery and counter shop is in Hampden now and doing well, where it appears to have filled a niche between the fancy fare of the neighborhood's new spots and the slapdash grub you can still find at the old haunts. A longtime fixture of Roland Park life, Anita Ward's combination bakery and sandwich shop reopened last year on Chestnut Street after 27 years in the Roland Park Shopping Center. The move wasn't entirely voluntary.

Howard County General tennis tournament, social Sept. 11Howard County General Hospital's Sixth Annual Tennis Tournament and Social, benefiting the hospital's Health Sciences Library, will be held Sept. 11 at the Howard Community College tennis courts.A serve and volley clinic will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the pot luck, round-robin tournament from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., including women's, men's and mixed doubles play.Entry fees are $50 for the first category of play, $25 for the second and $20 for social/spectator participation.

'Bless the Years' The Spirited Seniors ministry of St. Paul's Lutheran Church will hold its annual celebration Oct. 13-14 at the church, 308 Oak Manor Drive in Glen Burnie. At the Saturday and Sunday worship services and activities, members 55 and older will be recognized, and a special tribute will be given to those 80 and older. Services are at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, and 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14. Worship leader is Dr. George E. Black. A reception will be held after the 10:30 a.m. Oct. 14 services.

'Basic Christianity' A seminar on the basics of the Christian faith will be offered from 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Sept. 22 at Galilee Lutheran Church, 4652 Mountain Road in Pasadena. "Connecting" seeks to explore how the Bible teaches that God interacts with humanity and will cover the Ten Commandments, Apostles Creed, the Lord's Prayer, baptism, Communion, faith, the Bible and the church. Participants will use Martin Luther's Small Catechism as a basic framework for studying. Pastor Hank Simon is the instructor.

Light lunch, gifts at HCC open house Howard Community College will hold a Hospitality and Culinary Management Open House for students interested in careers in these fields at 11 a.m. Aug. 11, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia. The free event includes a hands-on culinary demonstration, a light lunch and a gift for those who attend. The open house will be in The Rouse Company Foundation Student Services Hall, Room 400. Information or to register: 410-772-4469. Teachers workshop at Patuxent refuge The environmental education office of the Patuxent Research Refuge will offer a workshop series for teachers at the National Wildlife Visitor Center in Laurel.
