Evelyn Nicholson, 88, nurse, Sudbrook Park residentEvelyn Jewel Nicholson, a former nurse and a longtime Sudbrook Park resident, died Sunday of a heart attack at Willows Assisted Living Home in Hanover, Pa. She was 88 and had lived on Sudbrook Lane.The former Evelyn Kirk was born in Oakwood in Cecil County to Charles E. and Blanche Kirk. She attended public school in Rising Sun.After receiving a nursing certificate from Maryland General Hospital's School of Nursing, she worked briefly as a registered nurse at Kernan Hospital in Baltimore.

THE VOTES ARE IN, and Baltimore ranks among the nation's 25 most gridlocked cities.A study of highways in 1993 by the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University showed that Baltimore's roads are the 22nd most clogged, trailing such cities as Detroit, Seattle, Atlanta and New York. Washington had the distinction of being No. 2.The study showed just how costly it is to be jammed up in traffic. Besides time, gridlock costs us $51 billion a year for travel delays and excess fuel consumption.

After years of delay, South Carroll soon could have a new post office -- and Mayor Jonathan S. Herman has proposed a possible site. Five postal officials met with Mr. Herman on Tuesday, and he suggested build ing the narfield complex -- 57 acres and 12 buildings -- at the hospital along Route 32. Sykesville is trying to annex the property and develop it as an industrial site. The mayor called it perfect for a post office."We are definitely willing to look at the hospital site," said Vince J. Liberto, postal facilities specialist.

The baseball season is over this year for most people, but for Ron Liberto it never ends.Whenever he wants to see what Cal or Brooks or Jim Palmer are doing, he goes to the basement of his Bel Air home.The Colts are there, too -- Alan, Gino and Johnny U.It's Cooperstown in Harford County, with nods to football, soccer, hockey and basketball.Mr. Liberto has created a 1,300-square-foot memorial to his sports heroes. The 3,000-item collection of memorabilia spans 40 years.His clubroom contains a sports bar, with a smiling Muhammad Ali photo serving as a makeshift bartender and a "Bomb 'em Birds" bumper sticker from 1969.

A 42-year-old Hampstead woman, whose last 10 years have been filled with traffic tragedies, was in serious but stable condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore last night after an accident on Wesley Road yesterday.Iris Hand, of the 300 block of Houcksville Road, was driving her Chevrolet Blazer southbound on Wesley Road near Tank Road in Finksburg about 11 a.m. when she failed to negotiate a dangerous curve and lost control, state police said.Her Blazer crossed the center line of the road, ran down the left shoulder for about 125 feet, came back on the roadway for about 90 feet and swerved to the left again, police said.

Last spring Robert Liberto moved his roofing business from the east side of town to an alley in West Baltimore. The company had room to grow in its newly renovated warehouse. The firm was closer to its government clients. Only one thing was missing: a street address.For weeks, the mail for Mr. Liberto's Maryland Commercial Roofing Inc. arrived at various houses in the 1800 block North Payson Street, the block on the eastern edge of the 332-foot long alley. Mr. Liberto had used "1824 N. Payson St. (Rear)"

Joseph Armando Liberto, a 54-year veteran of Baltimore movie houses who managed the Stanley, once Baltimore's largest cinema, died of Alzheimer's disease complications Sept. 19 at the Northwest Hospital Center. The Catonsville Manor resident was 82. Born in Baltimore and raised on Greene Street in downtown Baltimore, he attended St. John the Baptist Parochial School and was a 1944 graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School. While in high school, he worked summers in his family's Lexington Market produce business.

SAMUEL E. LIBERTO, 87 of York, PA formerly of Baltimore went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 12, 2006. He was the husband of the late Catherine L. [Corbett] Liberto. Born March 21, 1919 in Sopris, Colorado, one of nine children born to the late Mary [Cessina] Liberto who was born in Sopris, CO and the late Angelo Liberto, an immigrant born in Palermo, Italy. He retired in 1983 from the former Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) in Baltimore. Mr. Liberto was a member of American Legion and VFW in Baltimore and was a US Army veteran of WWII having earned many honors including a Purple Heart.
