The Orioles added another left-handed reliever to their bullpen Monday, selecting the contract of Zach Phillips from Triple-A Norfolk before Monday's series opener in Toronto. Phillips was told before Sunday's Tides game that he was being recalled and arrived in Toronto on Sunday night. "I really didn't think about it," Phillips said. "If it was going to happen, it was going to happen. I can't control the outcome, but I'm just happy to be here. " To make room for Phillips, the Orioles designated Norfolk right-hander Jason Berken for assignment.

Sitting in the press booth at Ripken Stadium on Wednesday night following Aberdeen's 4-2 loss to Connecticut, I was approached by the IronBirds' radio man and public relations chief, Towney Godfrey, who, according to post-game ritual, asked me which team members I'd like to interview. Still a bit fried from a chaotic week at the Ripken World Series, and feeling unsure about lobbing questions at a manager who'd just watched his team squander a very good ninth-inning opportunity to tie or possibly win the ballgame, I opted to skip a session with Aberdeen skipper Leo Gomez, and asked instead for players Matt Hobgood and Joe Velleggia.

He had a stint with the Orioles from 1993-1995. This season, Moyer was 2-5 with a 5.70 ERA with the Rockies.

The Orioles have agreed to terms with Japanese lefty starter Tsuyoshi Wada, which reopens their pipeline to Japan, according to an industry source. He will sign a two-year, $8.15 million deal with a 2014 option worth $5 million, the source said. It is the Orioles' first foray into the Japanese market since signing Koji Uehara before the 2009 season. Wada may not end up as the only pitcher from Japan's Nippon Baseball League on the roster. The club is also seriously interested in Taiwanese lefty Chen Wei-Yin, who pitched for the Chunichi Dragons.
