SAVANNAH, Ga. -- To see where the life of Clarence Thomas might have ended up, one must journey to where it began, out on the tidal flats of the Moon River just south of town, where marsh grasses bend gently to breezes that smell faintly of brine and mud.Here at a small community called Pinpoint, little has changed from June 1948 when the man President Bush has nominated for the Supreme Court was born. The shack of a crab house where his mother picked meat for a nickel a pound still stands by the murky water.

Janie Mae Love, a retired seamstress for the Uniflair Uniform Co., died of pneumonia Friday at Levindale. She was 78, and suffered from Alzheimer's disease.Mrs. Love was born in Great Falls, S.C., and lived most of her life in the Fairfield section of South Baltimore. Her husband of 30 years, Charlie Love, died in 1977.She retired from Uniflair in 1985. She had worked previously in the cafeteria of the old Mount St. Agnes College in Mount Washington.Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at the First Baptist Church, 1610 Brady Ave. in Fairfield.

ORPHA JOY BEILER, 50, of 5162 Mine Rd., Kinzers, PA, formerly of Baltimore, died Saturday, October 9, 2004, at home after a six month illness. Beloved daughter of Aaron and Naomi Beiler, Kinzers, PA; sister of Vernon, Arthur, Marlin Beiler, all of Paradise, PA, and Naaman Beiler of Mobile, AL. She worked as a Clinic Coordinator for Kennedy Krieger Institute. Prior to that she was an Occupational Therapist at Bayview Hospital. She was a member of Little People of America, and the North Baltimore Mennonite Church.
