Laurel Police arrested four people, two from Laurel, after finding146 grams of marijuana in a vehicle during a traffic stop around 1:18 a.m. Monday in the 900 block of Washington Boulevard. Laurel residents Lawratu Bah, 20, and Joyce Williams, 20; and Bria Archie, 20, of Bowie, and Matthew Bizzell, 24, of Louisville, Ky., all occupants of the vehicle, were arrested. Police also found drug paraphernalia on those in the vehicle. Police said the marijuana recovered had a street value of $1,500.

A 22-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday night after leading Laurel Police on a chase as she threw items from her vehicle's window. Officers initially attempted to stop the vehicle, which had a suspended registration, around 8:30 p.m. in the 14100 block of Baltimore Avenue. The driver drove away and fled the police, and was seen throwing items out of the window; police recovered bags of cocaine and marijuana from the roadway. The driver eventually got out of the vehicle and ran, but police apprehended her in the 11600 block of South Laurel Drive.

KinderMender Walk-In Pediatric Center is celebrating the grand opening of its newest location, Saturday, March 16, at 805 Washington Blvd., in Laurel. The festivities will feature food, drinks, balloon animals, a clown, tour of the new facility and door prizes attendees can win every half hour. The new center houses six urgent care/sick care rooms, a medication dispensary, a state of the art X-ray machine on site and three segregated rooms for well children, which help prevent the spread of infection.

Ten horses were injured and euthanized at Laurel Park over nearly six weeks this year, prompting the state to investigate why the rate of deaths at the racetrack had spiked so drastically and suddenly. But the deaths remain a mystery, a concern for horse racing fans and those in the industry. On Monday, a report on the state investigation did not identify a cause for the rise in deaths. Instead, the Maryland Racing Commission suggested in its report a tightening of current safety protocols and increased study of fallen horses.

Laurel Park Mr Palmer wins Private Terms Stakes Mr Palmer had all the worst of it and still won the $150,000 Private Terms Stakes going away Saturday at Laurel Park. After hopping at the start and breaking last, Mr Palmer settled behind eight other 3-year-olds under Junior Alvarado and stayed there through the first turn. Alvarado began to urge his mount entering the backstretch and got to work on the son of Pulpit approaching the far turn, taking him eight wide into the stretch before reaching Where's Dominic and Battier just past the eighth pole.

Each ticket includes popcorn and a drink. Registration is open for the spring and summer movie lineup. Tickets are $4 per person; $2 for center members; free for children 4 and younger but must be registered.

When Congress and the White House failed to make a deal on budget cuts March 1, sequestration went into effect, requiring federal agencies to identify $85 billion in required cuts. The looming reductions, which will be spread across agencies - with the exception of safety-net programs such as Medicaid - has federal employees and those who benefit from federal dollars concerned about how and if they will be affected. Laurie Proietti, the acting director of Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services, said she's concerned about how the sequestration cuts will affect her agency and the residents it assists.

Live racing at Laurel Park is canceled today due to the weather conditions in the area. Training at Laurel and the Bowie Training Center is also canceled, but as of 5 a.m., Laurel and Pimlico Race Course will be open for simulcasting today. Live racing is scheduled to resume Thursday with post time set for 12:35 p.m.

Alexander Pendleton, of Laurel, was named to the honor roll for the fall semester at the University of Kansas, in Lawrence. A senior in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, he is the son of Michael and Vibeke Pendleton, of Laurel. Christine Baumgarten and Roberta Goldenpenny, both residents of Laurel, were named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Notre Dame of Maryland University, in Baltimore. Mital Patel, of Laurel, was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at University of the Science, in Philadelphia, Pa. She is a pharmacology and toxicology student.
