A Baltimore judge has removed a veteran defense attorney from a high-profile murder case after learning that he was representing the suspect as well as a witness in related criminal and civil matters. Defense attorney James Rhodes had represented Steven James Lashley, 30, who is awaiting trial in a 2005 triple stabbing near the New York Fried Chicken on The Block. Meanwhile, Rhodes had advised another client, a witness in the case, to refuse to testify at Lashley's trial out of fear she would say something incriminating.

State police have identified the victim of Saturday's fatal motorcycle collision on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway as Allen R. Jones Jr., 31, of Baltimore. Jones was traveling north on the parkway near the Beltway about 5 p.m. when his 2002 Suzuki motorcycle collided with a 2001 Suzuki operated by Melvin K. Lashley, 32, of Timonium, police said. Both were thrown off, and Jones died at the scene. Lashley was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Police said his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

State police and federal immigration officials seized 14 pounds of marijuana and $41,000 in cash Thursday from a man described as an illegal immigrant from Canada.Police say they also confiscated a fictitious military identification card from the man, as well as an Armyuniform they suspect was used during a drug-smuggling operation.The raid, conducted shortly before 7:30 p.m. at an apartment nearthe Long Reach Village Center, netted police and federal officials nearly $35,000 worth of marijuana, said state police 1st Sgt. Edwin Lashley.

Colleagues and neighbors of a Churchville couple, whose deaths police are calling a murder-suicide, are reeling from the tragedy."It's just terrible. It's a shock to the whole community," said Richard Pappas, president of Harford Community College. The suspected murder victim, Theresa Deanne Daugherty, had been the registrar at HCC for the past seven years.She was found dead at about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in the bathroom of the couple's home in the 2500 block of Palmer View Drive, said state police Sgt. Edwin Lashley.
