It also allowed a handful of players to nurse some nagging injuries.Quarterback Tracy Ham sat out Tuesday's afternoon practice with "general soreness."Nose tackle Jearld Baylis (knee), defensive end Travis Jones (thigh), rush end Grant Carter (hip), wide receiver Jason Davis (hamstring) and fullback Peter Tuipulotu (hamstring) also sat out.Tuipulotu aggravated his hamstring two days after he injured his ankle.

Police in Anne Arundel and three other counties suspect that two men held in the Prince George's County Detention Center are part of a trio that committed nearly 60 burglaries and other thefts in those jurisdictions, authorities said yesterday.Larry Eugene Smith, 22, and Rodney Lee Smith, 28, who are not related and have no fixed addresses, are suspects in a rash of "garage door" burglaries, car thefts and thefts from autos in Anne Arundel, Howard, Prince George's and Montgomery counties.

University of Maryland athletic director Andy Geiger will be the guest speaker at the 51st McCormick Unsung Hero Awards Banquet tonight at Marriott's Hunt Valley Inn.Ninety-eight candidates, two of whom will be honored, will represent 65 Baltimore and Baltimore County public, private and parochial schools.McCormick scholarships worth $3,000 a year for each of four academic years will be presented to one male athlete and one female athlete.Established in 1940 by Charles P. McCormick, the program recognizes unselfish team play and honors those who contribute substantially to the success of their teams without receiving acclaim.

Andy Geiger, University of Maryland athletic director, will be the guest speaker for the McCormick Unsung Heroes Awards Banquet, Friday evening at Marriott's Hunt Valley Inn.The 51st annual event will honor 98 nominees from among 65 city and county public, private, parochial and independent area schools.
