The hit man who admitted ambushing a truck driver last year at a Westminster-area cement-hauling company received yesterday a sentence of life in prison with no chance for parole from a Carroll County judge who said the murder called for "pure punishment." Butchie Junior Stemple, 28, of Taneytown also received a 20-year sentence for a handgun offense. He had pleaded guilty to three charges, including first-degree murder, in the shooting death Nov. 15 of 27-year-old Scott E. Shipley. Stemple testified in June against his co-conspirator, Melissa Lynn Baumgardner Shipley, who promised to pay him $5,000 from an insurance policy on her husband's life.

In a surprise move yesterday, defense attorneys called Francis Mario Zito to the stand in a two-hour appearance in a Wicomico County courtroom, where the trial was moved because of extensive publicity.
